need help understanding my ratings.

Post by Kounetsu » Wed Feb 01, 2006 10:47 pm

This is just one of my vidoes for a example.
Stars (6) [2nd]
Avg (score) 3.406 [35th]
Avg (raw) 3.167 [16th]
Global Avg 3.3742

Avg Count 47.5261 <( All 3 of my vids say that)

To me this makes no sense, is this good, bad, or average? Can some one explain this to me?

This means that you've received 6 star ratings. This puts you in the 2nd percentile for star ratings received, meaning this video has received more star ratings than 2% of all the locally hosted videos on the site.
Kounetsu wrote:Avg (score) 3.406 [35th]
Your adjusted star score (Bayesian average) for this video is 3.406, which is higher than 35% of all the locally hosted videos on this site.
Kounetsu wrote:Avg (raw) 3.167 [16th]
Your raw star score for this video is 3.167, which is higher than 16% of all the locally hosted videos on this site.
Kounetsu wrote:Global Avg 3.3742
The average star rating given, across all locally hosted videos on this site, is 3.3742.

The average number of star ratings given per video, across all locally hosted videos on this site, is 47.5261.

As the percentiles go, higher is better (99th is the best you can get).

  • Stars (6) [2nd] | It means you have only 6 stars. 2% of videos on the site have 6 or less stars
  • Avg (score) 3.406 [35th] | This is the score the video has after the server calculates a Bayesian Average. 34% of videos on the site have a lower score.
  • Avg (raw) 3.167 [16th] | This is a straight average taken by adding yours stars together and dividing by the number of stars on the video. 16% of videos have a lower raw average than this video.
  • Global Avg 3.3742 | This is the raw average of all videos' raw averages. This is to show that people are generally giving 4 and 5 generously. Since the scale is 1-5 the mathmatical average should be 3 but the way people vote is obviously different according to this stat.
Keep in mind this video only has 6 stars. That is no where near enough to get an accurate gauge of the perceived quality of your video. Once the number of stars get around 100-400 the numbers will be more reliable.

Hey,

Gaah, you guys beat me to the punch on this one. Oh well. Here's what I wrote:

Here's what each of the items mean:

Stars -- This referes to the star scale feedback given by people who download the video
Stars (6) -- this is the number of star scale feedbacks given
Stars (6) [2nd] -- this is the star count percentile rank where the number 6 falls (1st = low; 99th = high)
Avg (score) -- the adjusted star scale score
Avg (score) 3.406 -- the adjusted star scale score value
Avg (score) 3.406 [35th] -- the adjusted star scale score percentile rank
Avg (raw) -- the raw star scale average
Avg (raw) 3.406 -- the raw star scale score value
Avg (raw) 3.406 [35th] -- the raw star scale score percentile rank

Global Avg -- the average adjusted star score received by all videos in the entire system
Global Raw -- the average star rating received by all videos in the entire system
Avg Count -- the average number of star ratings received by all videos in the entire system

What this means is that this video has received 6 star ratings, which is near the bottom of the scale as far as received ratings (2nd percentile). With the low number of actual star ratings given, you may want to take the averages with grain of salt. The adjusted star score is slightly above average but still low in overall ranking (35th percentile). The raw average is below the global average and is very low (16th percentile).

The better a video is to the general public, the higher in the percentile rank it will be. An avg score percentile rank over 80 is decent. A rank over 90 is very good. The ranking can somewhat be translated into traditional school grades by 90 = A, 80 = B, 70 = C, 60 = D, and blow = F. This is how I guess if I should bother downloading the video, assuming that there are enough star ratings given (200 or more is good for me).

I hope this helps.

Phade.
