I am going to make a video and i like to know what genre of music would be best

Don't care about what music people like, but what you like yourself. If the music you like is popular music, then go with it. If it is country eventhough not to many people might not like it, go with it because it is what you want. I use local band and underground artist a couple of times so its all depends on what you want to do.

I can't stress enough how right genestarwind21122 is. Don't listen to anyone else, pick an theme/song/anime that you love.

Worst thing you can do is pick a song you have no love for... editing to it becomes laborous and not fun at all

I agree wholeheartedly with everyone above me. All i can say is when you do the amv dont just slap on 3 minutes of footage and call it done. Do the song you choose some justice and that will set u apart from a lot of the first time editors.

People who have the nerve to bash and critisize your amv based on the song you chose alone and nothing else don't deserve any attention. So just don't pay them any mind. Not everyone is going to like the song you choose. I can guarantee that. But as long as everything else is as close to on point as you can get it to be, then that's all that matters.

I agree with what's been said here...especially when it comes to editing. If the song you pick is one you hate (or even one you just *kinda* like), you will despise the editing process because you have to hear it over and over and over again.

For me, it all depends on what anime I want to work with...I tend to pick that first, develop a concept and then ask myself what song would work best with the concept I've chosen. Thusfar, my songs have been pretty offbeat (not popular), and the next AMV I'm releasing is to a song by a local artist that I did for him as a gift (he loved it, btw). So, it really varies.

Do what you love. Do it to the best of you abilities, and don't worry about pleasing anyone else except yourself.

don't take too serious about others,just show your style.

Exception being the overdone stuff. In those cases why not just enjoy the videos already done instead of trying to make another one.
Exception to previous statement being if you are confident that you can do better job with it.

Yes ... Choose what you want, you'll like it better, you'll enjoy making it more, and you shouldn't worry about if it's popular music or not.

Hell I'm using these guys for my next project, I know people will hate it but I don't care.
