I am here to watch them, not you. So I do often get videos by people I don't know. (Also I don't know any editors, so there's that. Haha.)

Anyway, it's a combination of editor, source, song, description, video info (I am picky about illiterate video info unless there's a language barrier), and how much I feel like downloading random things.

If I don't like what I download, it's not the end of the world. They don't owe me anything, and I don't expect the world to cater to my tastes. So I'm a little more random than most, probably, although I won't download literally anything.

You the editor can't make me download your video. I hate that, and We the Audience can smell pathetic desperation. Oh yes. We can. 8-)

When it comes to the announcement section, I go for people I know consistently bring out good vids. Otherwise, I like checking out anime and music combinations that looks interesting. I’m on 56k, so I have to be picky.

As far newbie’s go…I’d don’t mind checking them out, provided they have a well written video descriptions and/or posts. Also their vid should be reasonably sized. I don’t want to wait 5 hours and find out I downloaded crap. Hell, there is this guy in the announcement section right now, made Bleach vid, it’s 12 MB [mp4 ftw] and he had a well thought out post. Now that’s worth checking out. Cool vid, it was worth the hour or so I waited to download.

I'll admit that name does prove to be an enticing reason as to me first clicking that thread... but titles always attract my attention just as much... I guess if you have something flashy as an advertisement (be it your well known name or big boisterous title), then I'll take a gander... don't know if I'll download though... I've taken some thread responses as means to avoid certain vids like that Seven lefts make a right vid, or something :P

As far as clicking on announcement threads, I'm pretty spontaneous about it. The combination and editor may catch my attention more quickly, but I often find myself downloading videos with anime and music I've never seen/heard of, and from editors who I know nothing about.

With first time videos, the same thing applies. I don't have a problem with watching newbie AMVs, but well-written video descriptions do give me more of an incentive to download one person's rather than another.

Right on! This goes for whether I spontaneous Super Search a video with the anime I wanted to watch or go through the AMV Announcements. :D

A selling point for me is one of the following:
1) a creator who's videos rarely disappoint me (Fluxmeister, Sierra_Lorna, Castor Troy, etc)
2) A clever, catchy, or well-thought out title ("Dead To The World - Story of the Antichrist" - can't get more catchy than that  )
3) A combination that should be executed effectively
4) Banners.

My theory behind number 4 is: if a creator has enough skills to photoshop a totally sweet looking banner, then hopefully they'll have the follow-through skills for a good video too.

For me, it depends on a lot of things.

I don't download just because of who created it. No matter how good a creator is (or how good their rep is)...it's still possible I won't like their vid for one reason or another (too many special effects, anime/music combo I don't like, etc). My tastes are unique...and just because 30 people have given the video high op scores doesn't mean I'm going to like it too.

I tend to shy away from videos if I click on it and it says in the description "I spent 3 hours on this," or something similar. Most good vids take a decent amount of time to make (though I have seen some that were created in insanely short amounts of time...though VERY rarely). I also tend to stay away from .wmv vids just because the video quality is usually poor.

I'm also one of the few who doesn't really read the announcements all that often. When I want to download, I do the Super Search and look for anime I'm familiar with and songs I like. If a combo sounds good and meets the above criteria, I'll probably give it a go. Also, if someone writes a really catchy description, or has a good title, I'll probably give it a look, just to satisfy my own curiosity. I also look through the new uploads pretty regularly to see what's out there.
