Downloading Trouble

Post by animeabsessed » Wed Jan 11, 2006 4:06 pm

Should start by saying I'm using windows

I downloaded one AMV and it worked just fine, then I tried to download a different one and couldn't because it kept playing on my windows media player. So I got opera and that let me download but it doesn't let be the video part of it and I can't change it to another player... Help?

On the member main page there's a link called "How To Guides" on the lower left-hand corner. If you click it, there's a guide called "How to play those damn videos" - if you go to the 'windows' section, you'll see a list of players, common problems, and links to codecs. The reason you can't see the video is because you're missing the codec - it's probably an avi file, xvid. Get the ffdshow filter and try watching it again:

Or check out the guide and get windows player classic *plus* the ffdshow filter (both linked in the guide):

Did you try any of the other things the guide suggested, like installing xvid, or getting a different version of windows media player (9.0 works for me, but it's buggy)? After you downloaded and installed ffdshow (double-clicking the exe file), did you restart your computer before you tried watching the vid? Are you getting audio and no video? Are these avi videos you're having trouble with (the extension on the video file you downloaded)? The guide gives all sorts of options depending on the problem you're having.

I'm reading it a bit more carefully to see if theres anything else that might help, and yea I'm only getting the audio. The save message did come up once but it couldn't finish.
