They say that to make sure if they get sued they can back it up by saying its in their user agreement.

Wow, I actually found one of my AMVs there.

It's actually pretty cool. I'm glad it's getting some recognition, and they didn't claim it as theirs so that's alright.

Yea.. Mine suck enough not to get stolen, but I put them up anyway. I'm kinda hoping the bad vid quality will send people this way to get the real copy, but who knows.

Also, Everything for Rinoa already has nearly 100 hits.

I have about ten AMV's up on YouTube, and I hope to put more. I mark them clearly which ones were made by me and which were not. But, I DON'T give the credit for the creator, because I would just get that info off of the video itself, and the person watching it can do that as well as I can. I DO indicate that I got the videos off of animemusicvideos.org, hoping that I can drive people here for higher quality and a larger selection of videos.

I mainly have them up on YouTube so I can stream them to show people what "streaming" is, with videos that I like. I can't download on my presentation computers, and since I work for a wireless Internet provider, playing a downloaded video wouldn't make the point I'm trying to make by showing off streaming. If that makes sense.

Since it's my personal belief that it's most creators' goal is to have their work seen, and since the whole thing of ownership is moot anyway, the only issue I could see would be someone blatantly claiming a video was their own creation when it wasn't. I can only speak for myself, but I don't do it.

And i'm not sure what you mean about "the whole thing about ownership." A lot of people, especilally those at youtube don't seem to understand that when you make something, you have the rights to it's distribution. That's the whole reason AMVs are basicaly illegal to distribute! Any creator has the right to allow/disallow the use of their creation.

Hypocracy or not, the right is still held. It's kinda like robbing a prostitute or a drug dealer. It's still robery, even though the money came from illegal activity. While your legal choices are limited at best (it depends on the methods used to manipulate the system), it dosn't quite mean you can't do anything.

I'm with Bashar here. If nothing else, think about all the time and effort that people put into making a video look as good as possible. Seriously, if I'm gonna put up a vid on youtube, I might as well simply render out a smaller file that will stream correctly instead of something that's gonna get resized and tweaked into uglyness.

The ownership is from the hard work and effort that someone puts into making an artistic creation. While the legality of using copyright material is debatable, the original work put in by the editor is what makes an AMV unique. You don't have to agree with me on this, but it seems that dropping the original creator a line and actually asking if they care if you put their video on youtube doesn't seem like a ton of effort. Or, to put it differently, it's people that throw other peoples videos on that site that started this whole quasi-debate in the first place.

See, always put your copyright, studio and/or your name in credits of amvs or anything else. If they say that they did make it, then they're having fun with a person's identity, which is pathetic! Those losers.
