good idea. Mods, do you see this?

This guy has committed a crime against this community. I recommend that he be banned for it.

That little jerk has some nerve.

[quote="rafpca"]And not only that--the people who steal them from here are impersonating the video creators. Here's one very small example:

Yes, that's my music video. No, Phantomdarkness is not me. It's a poser. Go ahead and scroll down through the comments; Phantomdarkness takes full credit. But it doesn't stop there. Look at Phantomdarkness' profile. YES--those are OTHER music videos from a-m-v.org, from OTHER video creators! Go ahead. I behoove you to search for some of your music videos; you might be surprised as to what you find. I contacted YouTube about this and received a cookie-cut, useless response about it:

[color=darkblue]Ok Ricky, here's the formal request we must make of you in order to remove this:

Dear Mr. Alvarez:

We have received your request dated December 21st, 2005 to remove from our site the following video: http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=QDSpVk_FyZQ
(as identified in your email below). In order to take action on your request, we will need to receive a written communication that includes substantially the following (please consult your legal counsel or see Section 512(c)(3) of the Copyright Act to confirm these requirements):

(i) A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

(ii) Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed, or, if multiple copyrighted works at a single online site are covered by a single notification, a representative list of such works at that site.

(iii) Identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing or to be the subject of infringing activity and that is to be removed or access to which is to be disabled, and information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to locate the material.

(iv) Information reasonably sufficient to permit the service provider to contact the complaining party, such as an address, telephone number, and, if available, an electronic mail address at which the complaining party may be contacted.

(v) A statement that the complaining party has a good faith belief that use of the material in the manner complained of is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.

(vi) A statement that the information in the notification is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that the complaining party is authorized to act on behalf of the owner of an exclusive right that is allegedly infringed.

Such written notice should be sent to our designated agent as follows:

Heather Gillette
YouTube, Inc.
71 E. Third Avenue
San Mateo, CA 94401
Tel: 650.343.2960
Fax: 650.343.2983
Email: copyright@youtube.com

Please also note that under Section 512(f) any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that material or activity is infringing may be subject to liability.

Very truly yours,
Heather Gillette

Now, obviously, I don't hold the copyright to the video or audio I used in the video. So there's only one solution.

Woah...I didn't even realize this was happening until someone else mentioned it. Hehe...even though it sometimes seems to be lame to fight back in some people's opinions, it sure is fun to me! Crushing idiots on the web makes me feel sooooo damn good, and it's for a righteous cause! How can you beat that?

I haven't done something like this in years. =D

In the old days on the Winmx chatroom if someone stole a video they were basically tarred and feathered with a banning symbol if they DARED to ever come back.

In one case, we had the 2002 Winmx Tourny there were two types: beginner tourny and advanced. In the beginner tourny a video went through the matches, was excellent, screened to make sure it was original and won!

What was wrong with this scenario?

A month later, Krillin the Villin saw this video made by the original artist. He came back to the committee showed them the evidence and in the end the winner's title was stripped, he was banned from our chatrooms and never allowed to enter another tourny ever again.

In fact, his name was given out to several other organizers and they banned him too.

Years later this person redeemed himself and worked hard to really turn himself around by apologizing to everyone. More so, the funny thing was he never had to steal the vid in the first place, as a vid creator and artist, he was brilliant....but, he wanted to win so badly that he felt he needed to steal a vid to do it.

The rules of the Winmx World Anime Music Video Tournament now stipulate that if a stolen video is found that the contestant will be barred from entering that tourny and any future tournies.

There is a list with the offenders name and their ip's.

Being that I was on the committee from 2002-2003 I've seen the list and you wouldn't believe how many broke this rule.

Doesn't anybody see the irony here?

The record company gets pissed when we take their stuff and do things with it without their permission, the anime companies get pissed when we to the same thing.

Now, someone is taking something that you spent time and effort on and doing things to it without your permission... and you get pissed. Your response? To act exactly like the record companies that you hate so badly.
