Need help finding good Shoujo.

Post by Keiji-san » Mon Dec 05, 2005 7:17 am

I have just finished watching Full Moon wo Sagashite and feel kind of an emptiness now that it's over. I want more of the same stuff. Therefore I need help finding more great shoujo (or just shows with good love story in centre). Note: I'm only looking for shoujo that's suited for both boys and girls, so please don't mention any only for girls show. Also please tell me what you think makes that show good.

Thanks in advance / Keiji-san

Oh god! That happens to me right after I finish a good shoujo too, like when I finished Full Moon too. You need something up to par with Full Moon. Hmmmm...... Oh, I have a nice suggestion. It's only 12 episodes but you should get/download an anime called Shingetsutan Tsukihime. When you feel like crap after watching a shoujo that means it's really good and I felt like pure shit after watching Full Moon and Shingetsutan Tsukihime.

If you haven't seen them yet try Da Capo or Heartfull Days both have good love stories and the second one is quite comical.

Thanks for the tips Rurounikeitaro and cholinms! Both Da Capo and Heartful Days look interesting. Unfortunately I have already seen Tsukihime but then again it’s a really great show. In fact it’s the best vampire show I have seen to date :)

Well, technically, shoujo is aimed for girls, so it's a bit funny that you don't want shows only for girls. :-P I understand what you meant; just pointing out that shoujo by definition is meant to appeal to girls.

I would really recommend Fruits Basket, as it is very sweet and entertaining. It does feature a minor love triangle, but with no real conclusion by the end of the anime. Like I said though, the love triangle is a rather minor part of the story, and can be viewed merely as friendship relationships.

If you want romance, I've heard from many people, both male and female, that Kare Kano is good. I've yet to watch it, but the basic story is a high school romance.

Oh, if you want a new one, I'd suggest Suzuka then. It's a shoujo about a girl that runs track and....uhhh....it's really good I tell ya!! I haven't watched it by my brother and my friend tell me it's good. My brother keeps taking up my damn gigabytes downloading the show "it's on about episode 22 right now.

Hehe you’re right Solaria735, maybe I should have formulate the question a little different. I just wanted to point out that I don’t want any show with bishonen content.

Have seen some of the first episodes of Fruits basket and it’s really good. If I would put it in a genre I would call it a tee show. Don’t really know why but it just seems to suit the mood of the anime. Maybe my British friends have influence me to much :D

Rurounikeitaro I looked at the first episode of Suzuka today and I liked it very much. Think I will start following this show.

I might as well recommend an anime my self when I’m at it. Kodocha is a shojuo comedy/drama thought you must not be fooled by its bizarre humour. Even thought it might look like a pure comedy in the beginning it will deal with a lot of serious matters like family problems, love and death. It’s like a lighter version of Full Moon.

I'd like to put a vote out there for Air, start with the TV series, then watch the movie if you want to, they more or less have the same storyline with some changes.

Paradise Kiss is a really good series that I'd suggest. It's a more adult shoujo then most, but still really fun to watch and humorous at times.

Aishiteruze Baby was great, and is probably one of the best Shoujo animes I've seen relesed in the last couple years.
I am the bone of my sword
Steel is my body and fire is my blood
I have created over a thousand blades
Unknown to Death
Nor known to Life
Have withstood pain to create many weapons
Yet, those hands will never hold anything
So as I pray, unlimited blade works.

Thx for the suggestions RanChan13. I haven’t seen any of the shows you mentioned so I’m really looking forward to check them out, especially Air which I have heard much good about.

Ojamajo Doremi is excellent, if a bit hard to find. The 'Ojamajo Doremi Naisho' OAVs are fairly common, and don't require too much knowledge about the rest of the series. Of course, you could also watch the 4Kids dub (Just kidding! :P )
