That, and 'didn't work' is also vague in that it could be their opinion that the video didn't 'do it' for them.

Can someone explain to me why on earth getting a flaming QC is such a bad thing? I mean... it's all part of the process; and if it bothers you, it's fine not to read it. Would getting it non-anonymously change anything?

Actually, I don't think I ever got a flaming QC yet. Unless you count Inthesto, but you shouldn't. Otherwise, negative comments actually confirmed for me that people aren't insane and don't all uniformly like my videos (which is only borne out by star ratings, anyway).

the problem is that not reading qcs isn't a good solution to avoiding flaming qcs. you'll still believe some qcs you get will be meaningful. receiving flaming qc's that are meaningless will require you to filter through more noise before you find the meaningful ones. it's also frustrating to be insulted and not be able to do anything about it.

you could make the argument to not take quick comments too seriously, but it also defeats the purpose of the qcs - to give the creator a better idea of what her audience thinks of the video.

I think this all comes down to the argument over whether the lack of accountability is a fair price to pay for removing a possible inhibition for expressing a judgement on a video.

For me, it's an issue of creative ir/responsibility. I think hostility is an inescapable repercussion of creative expression, and I don't think it's fair to try and sweep it under the doormat for the sake of sparing the feelings of those faint of heart.

What I'm saying is about the anonymity of QC's is, well - not reading the comments is a far better, if far from perfect, solution than destroying it.

Precicely. And I, for one belive that it is.

When QC's were first being discused I made two suggestions: That there should be an option to "sign" the reply, and that you should be able to make 3-4 of them public on the video descriptions page. The first hasn't really turned out to be an issue as not too many people are apt to belive impersonators, but the second is still valid.

Maybe if people could put a couple of nice quotes up movie poster style, they would have less time to bitch about QC's (I am grateful for each and every one of my mean, dispariging, QC's because they are perfectly honest.)

I think this would be especially useful as people will not take the time to read a whole oppinion to see if they want to download a video.

I read the comment for pro- QCs and while I see your point, I have to say I'm still anit-QC. I, as a creator, want to know when I do a bad video so that I don't make the same mistakes, the quick comments are lacking in the amount of feedback a creator receives. Also, many people who use the Quick comments do use it to just bash the crap out of your videos. Constructive criticism is one thing, but insulting is another. People need to get nicer. I don't know how many times I've gotten a bad comment from someone who doesn't even create.

I don't see how that's a problem. And bashing is still feedback, unconstructive though it may seem - though, admittably, a lot of it is pretty irresponsible. For me, it's worth the price for other, more to-the-point comments.

And I don't believe expertise is a license for qualified feedback, or the reverse.

I made this comment in an older forum, but before I could get any feedack the topic was closed, so I am re-posting it here.

I would like to suggest an idea and opinion for the .org. I have a few opinions on how to make Quick Comments better and to apply them more than they are currently used.
First: I've noticed that there are people who dislike a video and completely flame the artist... In my opinion who cares. If I like my video and there is at least one other person who likes it, then I did my job creating the video as best I could. An option to remove a quick comment may be an option here, but in reality, if you don’t like what they have to say simply ignore it. By nature the comments should remain anonymous.
Second: Another thing that comes up is that some people ask questions of the artist, but never leave a name or some form of contact information to get an answer. Could it be possible to add a radio button asking the person who is posting if they would like a reply by the artist? This would then pass on the username so that we could reply and answer the question that was asked.
Third: I would like to see someday is the ability to share Quick Comments. Currently we can share a general comment that shows the opinions and who made the opinion, but why can we not share, if we choose to, the Quick Comments? I would like to see a way to share the comments so that others can see what is said about your video, even if no comments are made. An example would be one of my videos where I have maybe 20 Quick Comments that I can see, but no opinions for the viewers to see.

Of course I am submitting this as my own opinion of the matter and would like to hear what others have to say about it.

I dunno. If you can't draw a stick figure, you must not have hands. And everyone knows that people without hands are pretty stupid, so any critique they formulate is negligible.
