AVS scripts work in Vegas no prob. Don't bother with Huffyuv

Post by x_rex30 » Tue Nov 29, 2005 10:07 am

Well everyone has there own methods.. so if you just want a few clips from an anime and then delete the VOBs from the computer then forget this.. but If you keep VOBs on your computer and/or sick of using Huffyuv to edit, then maybe you might want to try this.

I recommend using the minimal filters you can like basic deinterlacing then add other filters for cleaning up your footage later like when you want to fix problems for rainbowing, dotcrawl, etc.. after your done editing your video in Vegas, you could just replace the old info in your .avs file with the new info and just save it with the same name in the same directory.. also when you change that, you'll have to replace your old fake .avi(witch I'll talk about later) with the new one and have it have the same name and in the same exact directory. When you want to render your video you could easily close down vegas.. edit your scripts with all those extra filters, then just replace the .avs and fake .avi with the new info, and all the changes will be made to the footage and still work in Vegas just fine.

All you need is Vfapi to make the fake AVI and then the AVS script will work in Vegas without a problem.. see these threads for further information.

that last link is a bit interesting. Might want to read it. Vfapi use to not work that good and only support .d2v files but thanks to someone named tritical all is well and it's one of the best programs I use now for editing. I just couldn't get MakeAVIS to work with Vegas.. Special thanks to tritical! Without him non of this would have been possible. ^_^

You'r going to have to get a version of DGIndex that supports Vfapi and then get the most current DGVfapi.vfp in the latest DGIndex and replace it with the old one that's located in the DGIndex folder, or just get the new DGIndex and use that version(besides it has a lot of bug fixes). Then you'll have to get Vfapi somewhere to convert your AVS scripts to a fake AVI. All you would have to do is drag your .avs in Vfapi and have it convert for you then your set.

Hope this helps some editors.

I know there is a down side to Vfapi. It was in the guide, I believe it had to due with color spaces. Also I think Vfapi used to be limited to one instance, but I believe that problem has been solved. I tried it out before, but liked the MakeAVIS method (even though it works on and off sometimes, basically I've had to try many versions of ffdshow). But thanks for the info, I'll keep it in mind when MakeAVIS goes psycho again ^_^!

Yes the problem with multiple instances has been fixed. I did run into minor problems with it but they were able to fix it.

Many of the previous problems listed have also been fixed.. back when that guide was made avs scripts didn't even work with it not to mention it didn't even have multiple instances so you could run multiple scripts from different anime at once.

If you notice any specific bugs in Vfapi, report it at the Doom9 forums in the DVD2AVI / DGIndex section and then they may be able to address the problem and hopefully fix it.

Just an update with useful information.

At http://www.doom9.org/ they have Vfapi in the download section. here's the direct link http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/SupportUtil ... .05-EN.zip

make sure you get the lastest DGIndex

More info on the update here.

The update fixes a big problem I've been having with it and there's a better explenation of the problem fixed here. So make sure you use the up to date version of DGIndex that I gave a link to.

Also using Vfapi is an extremly easy method to get DVD VOB files to work in Windows Movie Maker with your AVS script and many other editing programs.

Here's some more info if you like.

They need to put up a guide somewhere about this. Maybe Somewhere in the guides the could put up Janzki's guide up for others to see if he doesn't mind.

So write up an AVS script that serves the D2V file, as outlined in the relevant section of EADFAG.

well i got the avs to open an show somthing but heres what it says

MPGE2Source:couldn't open source file, or obsolete D2V file
(C:\FULL_METAL_PANIC_1\VIDEO_TS\fmp dvd 1.avs, line 1)

heres what I put in the script

MPEG2Source("C:\FULL_METAL_PANIC_1\VIDEO_TS\fmp dvd 1.d2v")

the frame type is progressiv so i dont need to deinterlace

Make sure you're using the latest version of DGDecode or DGMPGDec or whatever the hell he calls it now if you made your D2V file with DGIndex.
