Of course I'm not being serious about the "total ripoff" part. It's not like anyone has a monopoly on the "segmented video" concept.
I've been thinking of doing one of those

Do whatever you want. There is no rule regarding originality of a concept and that isn't for the org or others to decide. People might not like it but oh well.

As Madbunny was saying, "Just like we really (really!) don't want to know where your hand has been before you washed it, we really don't need to know about your mixed breed videos. Nobody will know, nobody will care."

Hope it turns out well.

In responce to the original question, yes it would be wrong. Your still stealing the edits that someone worked hard on. Its no different from stealing specific footage from an amv and puting it into your own. but if its just for fun and you aint claiming it as your own, its ok. Just use media player clasic to make the job simpler. Go to file>open and put in the video and alternate audio in there respective places.

Before I uploaded the video to the .org, I emailed K-type to let hime know what I had done, and asked if he would be offended if I uploaded it. K-type was cool with it, as long as I kept the name of my video substantially different than his. I also made sure to credit him with the inspiration in my video comments and whenever I discuss the video.

Long story short, it's OK to be inspired by someone else's video, it's OK to pay tribute to them. It is not OK to take footage from someone else's video and claim it as your own (that includes transitions and effects). If you plan to homage another person's AMV, be sure to contact that person before you upload your version. I wouldn't enter it into any contests (I put ADVentures in AWA's Expo just so it would be shown - I didn't expect to win anything. I really should have made it non-competing), but if the other creator doesn't mind, then I'll leave that decision to you.

Hope that's helpful.
Chris
I strongly agree with what he says!
Its one thing to be inspired its another to just right out copy some elses AMV even if it is only a little with no concern for the orginal creator.
I SACRIFICE!
