What is an opinion?
What would you classify as a true opinion on a video?
That one topic had sparked some interest in me. What do you view as a truly valuble opinion for an amv?
Do you accept the opinion "It sucked?" over the 500 word essay on your editing? or vice versa?

One thats subjective to the amv, logical and isnt influenced by personal feelings such as weather they like the song or not.
An oppinion which tells me where my editing went wrong and how it could be improved.
That last question is obvios, and anyone who sais "it sucked?", dont. I've allready ruined your half decent chance at a crap joke.

Well it's just an opinion.. and really I think almost anything is acceptable.. but if you've never done effects in any of the vids you've posted and then all the sudden got reviews for the effects in your non effect videos.. I can see a reason to complain. As I've said that was the first video I submitted and didn't notice the disable feature for the effects and I'm just trying to see if I can fix that.. witch only technical issues so far have kept that from being fixed.

Re: What is an opinion?
Something that fills out the opinion form as presented. Relevant or irrelevant depends on the content, the timing, and the creator attitude, but everything that fills out the form is an op.older_gohan wrote:What would you classify as a true opinion on a video?
Something that tells me something I didn't know about a video that I consider to matter. I occasionally get ops on videos that are several years old that have what the commenter thought were helpful critiques and suggestions, and they would be -- if I hadn't already noted and implemented them in more than 60 projects since. It's very rarely that an op on a video more than even 4 projects in the past will have any critiques relevant to my current process. I'm constantly analyzing what I do and how I do it in order to work faster and produce better results, and the upshot of this is that by the time someone notices something wrong and mentions it in an op, odds are it's already fixed, and in many cases has been fixed for several videos already.older_gohan wrote:What do you view as a truly valuble opinion for an amv?
Creatively I come from somewhere different than most AMV creators and fans, and I'm comfortable with how I approach the creative side in 90% of instances. Their commentary in this regard is not likely to either address how I'm executing my approach, or convince me to change it; in the end, I only very seldom listen to ops as opinions rather than technical critiques.
Some people may need tech stuff pointed out, and most people will profit from good creative commentary by most others. Valuable opinions exist, but I seldom to never actually get them, though for reasons that have more to do with me than with the opinionators.

Well I mean, opinion in the anime fandom doesn't mean the same thing as the dictionary definiftion of opinion. Like a regular old opinion would be like
Person A: I loved that movie!
Person B: I hated it.
Those are opinions. But as for the site's version of opinions, well anything with number scores at at least one character in the comment boxes is an opinion.
I mean, they may as well call that section the score section or the review section. Because by the nature, a lot of the opinion scores aren't entirely opinions. I mean, the audio and visual scores, while there's some room for subjectivity, are fairly objective.
So they are all opinions </abuse of bold>, I think the question you're looking for would be "what is a good opinion?"

Ever since man became sentient enough to mix emotions and cognitive thought, we've developed a curious phenomenon in our psyche called opinion. But just what IS an opinion? The dictionary defines an opinion thus:
o·pin·ion Audio pronunciation of "opinion" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (e'-pin-e'-yn)
n.
1. A belief or conclusion held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof: “The world is not run by thought, nor by imagination, but by opinion” (Elizabeth Drew).
2. A judgment based on special knowledge and given by an expert: a medical opinion.
3. A judgment or estimation of the merit of a person or thing: has a low opinion of braggarts.
Put simply, an opinion is the collective attitude of an individual, group, or collective toward a subject, circumstance, statement, or action. While it not easy to correlate the origin of most opinions, it can generally be inferred that most opinions are derived as a reaction to emotional stimuli. This means that opinion can not be achieved without emotional input.
An opinion is a view of something that usually has no significant consequence. As such, I am curious as to WHY PEOPLE PLACE SO MUCH FUCKING EMPHASIS ON THEM ON THIS SITE. WAY TO MAKE THIS BULLSHIT PRIORITY NUMBER ONE! DUMBFUCK SELF-OPINIONATED DIPSHITS WHO GO ON ABOUT IT MUST REALLY GET A KICK OUT OF SEEING THEIR NAME HIT THE CHARTS IN SOME GLORIFIED STRAIN OF THOUGHT THAT INSTANTLY ALLOWS THEM TO BECOME A UNIVERSAL GURU ON ALL THINGS A/V RELATED. CONGRATULATIONS.

a true video opinion? the definition would be something along the lines of what staces and requiett gave.
what makes a video opinion valuable? critiques that help the creator improve do.
but personally, the opinions that strike me the most are the ones that tell personal reactions to the video. "it sucked" would be a valuable opinion to me, as it reflects (though obscurely) the personal reaction of the viewer. but something like "i felt (insert emotion) at/about (insert timestamp) because (insert reason)" is something i'd really like to see. something like "stop using wmm" (which i get a lot) is a thoughtful suggestion, but not one i'll regard highly.
