Quick Comment

Post by akisamedreams » Tue Oct 18, 2005 10:21 pm

I have been here for a long time now-not too long-and I as very happy to see the Quick Comment thing added. I find it very useful when I'm in a hurry, and when I can't think of an in depth opinion.

It's confusing though that I have no way of checking who made the comment on my video or review the ones I've recieved. I see the thing on the main page when I've logged in, but otherwise there's no place linking to where my comments are for each video like we have for an opinion left on our videos.

Maybe I just don't see it or it's not there, but I think it would be helpful if there was a way to have a page where the Quick Comments were and who sent them. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Quick Comments are anonymous for a reason. If people want to let the creator know who it was, they can mention it in the comment.

My problem with that is that there's no way to verify that the person actually is who s/he says s/he is; s/he could be pretending to be someone else and you'd never know.

If there was an option to leave my verified name with the quick comments I gave, I might use it.

Yeah, you're right, and that has crossed my mind. But there's really nothing to be done about it. Additionally, most people that would be susceptible to being claimed falsely as a leaver of QCs are people with a sort of presence and usually a distinguishable style of commenting. But that's not always true, and it's beside the point.

However, I think QCs should stay anonymous simply because it allows people to critique the video bluntly and honestly without fear of the creator thinking differently of them. Sometimes I've been reluctant to say exactly what's on my mind to people I'm on good terms with, and I'm generally pretty blunt and straightforward. Ultimately, it's the critique that matters, not the person who sends it. It's up to the creator to decide whether the critique is a valid one.

Blunt honesty only goes so far.

My recent videos have come under unfriendly fire without decent explanation. I find my videos to be decent, perhaps the earlier ones not so much... but as of late, my better videos have been receiving hurtful QC which I have no means of tracking.

I would like amvs.org to remove the QC option from its site unless it can track those who abuse it by leaving flames.

I have left you with QCs left on my videos. This alone should be reason enough to edit the QC option.

QCs:

""one-trick pony. noun: any person or group with only one discernable trait, talent, or area of expertise. Example: Whiteash is a one-trick pony video editor. And it's a very bad one trick pony.""

""They were not given power to kill them, but only to torture them for five months. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes a man. [Revelations 9:5]""

""oh god it was horrible... please improv >_<""

""hate it""

""I found this video to be like having sex with a 90 year old great grandma. Some might find it fun but I found it rather distrubing, sick, and one of the ugliest things I've ever seen.""

""I've taken shits that were more entertaining.""

""This video is like my last acid trip. No matter where I turn I see horrible images drug from the bowels of hell and hear sounds that make fingernails on a chalkboard sound like Mozart in comparison. After just a few minutes of it I end up wrapped around the toilet covered in my own puke screaming 'oh dear god, just let me die please'.""

""uhmm... eh i dont know""

""crap""

""You know the saying that if you let 1000 monkeys bang on 1000 keyboards for 1000 years that they'll produce the entire works of shakespeare? This video would take 10 monkeys fling shit at a monitor for about 5 minutes to reproduce.""

Y'know i'm starting to believe this one one after you posted the exact same thing in 3 different threads about QCs...

Just trying to spread the word, my friend. But yes, good example.

As a rule of thumb, I usually include my username in my quick comments, just so the person knows who it was from. Cuts the guesswork.

Or course, if you leave a horrible review, you probably don't want the person to know it was you.

I should start signing QCs. Which do you think would be more believable and more amusing, 'Phade', 'Koop', or 'Whiteash'?

There aren't consequences for impersonating people?
