This problem sucks! (Sry guys...)

Post by Bauzi » Thu Oct 13, 2005 10:04 am

From Bauzi:

My problem: "I want to submit opinios to AMVs I didn´t downloaded!"

Why can´t I just do this? I´ve written 1h on new opinions offline to submit them and than I can´t do it because I didn´t downloaded the AMVs? WTF! :?
I am a slow 56k user and I get the most AMVs from friends... I don´t want to download a AMV for a lot of hours just for submiting an opinion!

Well I know, that fake accounts can´t write opinions that easy, but please change it!
I love this site, but this problem makes me really mad!!!! :x

Let the vid dl for about 30 seconds, that could register it as a download and you'l be able to get past the no op without dl rule.

And therein lies the problem with this system of op protection.

I thought the server could tell when the download had completed and only count it if it actually did?

But yeah, I don't particularly like this new rule either, for the sake of those who choose direct links over local ones. (If support for direct and indirect links in considering a video as "downloaded" was ever added, it's news to me.)

It's supposed to, and it used to, but it doesn't anymore. At least not for me. I thought it was that link derobert had a while back, but they say that no longer works. So I guess it's just people on dial-up who get disconnected. As long as the video has been downloaded at least 1%, it counts as fully downloaded when/if I cancel it or get knocked offline. On the positive side, the download resumes as long as I don't close the download page - which never worked for me on IE before.

IT DOES? SWEET. Coz my comp is connected to our router (which is on the other side of the house) via a wireless connection, so if i'm downloading and it drops out, i have to start all over again. Now it looks like i won't have to ^_^

It does if you resume right away, like within a few minutes - you keep the download page open and use the "if the download doesn't start click here" link. If you're offline for an hour or two, it will start from scratch. I have no idea why it does that, but if you wait too long to resume, it counts the vid as fully downloaded and you have to 'redownload' it.

Note this just started with the new server, I don't know if it works on the older ones. I don't willingly cancel downloads, so I haven't tested it much.

Try Opera. It usually resumes for me even from Local, but about 1/10 of the time it'll start over from scratch.
