Hey Hihhuli,

I think you have the definitions of "download" and "upload" mixed up.

Download = file from server to your computer
Upload = file from your computer to server

If you want to view a video from here, you download it. If you want to put a video here, you upload it. As far as I know, FireFox is good a resuming downloads but can do nothing about resuming uploads, especially uploads over a web form submit. Again, this is why we use FTP rather than HTTP to put videos onto the server.

I use FireFox as my primary browser and it works great for downloading videos. FireFox is a web browser designed to download web pages and files of any size, but not really designed to upload large files. If you know how to resume uploads with FireFox, especially ones over web form submits, please let me know because that would help solve lots of problems.

In the mean time, you can provide more details about your problem as listed in the previous post so that we can help you.

I hope this helps.

Phade.

Hihhuli wrote:"FTP has the great advantage over web form uploads in that you can stop and resume an FTP upload while a web form upload must always restart from the beginning of the file if there is a problem" * i say *cough* bullshit try using firefox not that problem.
See, webform uploads are generally done via HTTP POST, meaning that resuming is a very tricky issue. This is browser-independant, so using Firefox changes nothing.
Hihhuli wrote:"Web form uploads do not tell you the status of the upload (percent completed) so you just get to sit there while the web browser icon spins; FTP shows you the progress of the upload and an estimated time of completion." wrong again try Firefox and also try torrent faster than FTP
I've not seen any browser that can monitor webform uploads, and few sites that do webform uploads give you any tracking of the progress. Anyway, your assertion that BitTorrent is faster than FTP is technically uninformed. BitTorrent speeds depend on the peers you are connected to and the responsiveness of the tracker. With FTP, discouting a malfunctioning routher mid-path, it's just you and the server. You're more likely to get a high and reliable speed with FTP, assuming both connections are good.
Hihhuli wrote:"FTP programs generally use fewer resources than web programs. It is for these reasons that we use FTP to upload videos." Looky here firefox has a web browser file manager program allowing you to jump to downloaded/unfinished files to continue *Cough* so much for fewer sources guz it uses direct.
While there are extensions to solve this issue, Firefox only does one half of FTP itself. Firefox does downloading, but not uploading. Anyway, due to FTP being far less complicated than HTTP, the programs are frequently quite a bit simpler and less resource-intensive. Comparing FTP(1) to Firefox is... well, a bit inane. FTP(1), obviously, is far more efficient and far less resource-intensive. No GUI, no HTML parser, no window of its own...
Hihhuli wrote:as for the details yeah i might have not given all the details, but the real problems was when i finally got in to the host, time out or server disconnected me as in messages of filezilla " operation timed out" or " disconnected by server" when i was about to upload
If you expect us to be able to help, we need all possible details. Many things can be relevent, not just that you got an error and what program you were using.

for phade: no i was trying to upload it ROFLMAO DOH!!! i been saying it al time, now whos mixing things up?

for kalium:"See, webform uploads are generally done via HTTP POST, meaning that resuming is a very tricky issue. This is browser-independant, so using Firefox changes nothing."

i have tried IE, Opera and FF i have had no problem continuing DLs.( i think this is why phade thought i am mixing DL and UL... phade try to think abit what u read.)

its all about how you use it most of the time my torrent DLs and ULs are way more faster than any of FTP i have tried with, keep ur ULs up and u get good DL speed in the future, didnt u read the beginners guide to torrents, your DL is mainly proportianal to your shares.

true no GUI etc. but like i stated in my previous post, the quality and number of FTP servers is decreasing compared to that of torrent networks

"If you expect us to be able to help, we need all possible details. Many things can be relevent, not just that you got an error and what program you were using."

your repeating phade... thats kinda useless guz i sent the details straight to phade, but the question, are you hes parrot?

i suggest the following; let me find the host ( i allready have a host in mind my school they can give me a 150MB line and 100MB space) as i stated in my last post I QUIT USING FTP if its not clear enuf chek the occupation, and when i get the host... i will withdraw the upload form and reupload it to ur site VIA the host i find as a link. I hate repeating myself and i really dont want to type this the third time

Hey,
Hihhuli wrote:i have tried IE, Opera and FF i have had no problem continuing DLs.( i think this is why phade thought i am mixing DL and UL... phade try to think abit what u read.)
Resuming downloads has nothing to do with resuming uploads. IE, Opera, and FF cannot resume uploads. Since you keep mentioning something that has nothing to do with uploads, it is confusing.
Hihhuli wrote:its all about how you use it most of the time my torrent DLs and ULs are way more faster than any of FTP i have tried with, keep ur ULs up and u get good DL speed in the future, didnt u read the beginners guide to torrents, your DL is mainly proportianal to your shares.
Bittorrent has nothing to do with server uploads. Since you keep mentioning this which has nothing to do with server uploads, it is confusing

But you STILL have not provided enough details for us to help you troubleshoot your problem. The only thing we can do until you either solve the problem yourself or provide us enough information for us to help you solve your problem is for us to keep asking for more information for us to help solve your problem.

The only methods for server uploads that I know of (besides outdated methods such as gopher) are via FTP and HTTP. Even if you find a different host, you will still have to use one of those two methods (unless you have physical access to the machine, which is highly unlikely). Also even if you get the video uploaded to the different host, you will still have to use FTP to get the file onto our server.

Since you seem to be unwilling to provide more details for your problem, I cannot help you. Perhaps someone else will be able to read your mind in order to find the problem you are having.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

"Bittorrent has nothing to do with server uploads. "The number of FTP server and bittorrent networks has nothing to do with server uploads. Since you keep mentioning this with has nothing to do with server uploads, it is confusing." makes all the difference in BT network the more servers in the desired destination the more bandwith for ur upload.

Oh BTW no problems with other FTP servers ( such as my school ) and that also requires user name and pass. so no problem in those since u typed em right, and tried for a dozen times
connection to your server were tried 22:00-22:25 GMT+02:00 just to clarify whos trying to connect name was: spoducuswa and pass was: wrigaspeja last time i am trying this connection, anyways. starting to look for sites with better FTP service providers.
