She completely ruined any chance the series had of being enjoyable. This guy is in place full of chicks, and might have a chance to actually score, but no, Naru has to go out of her way to constantly cock-block the guy and then beat the shit out of him. That is just way to depressing to be funny. \
Seriously, I wish the series started with Naru getting shot in the head, in a really really graphic manner. You know, something animated by Mad House. Probably involving her getting chopped in half vertically, fusing back together, and then getting killed over and over again. Then I might have been able to watch it.

WAH? How terribly judgmental of you. To assume just because I have an appretiation for some good old animated graphic sex that I cant appretiate other good anime that are not sexual. For your information, I just came back from seeing Spirited Away. And let me tell you, that is one of the most amazing movies i've ever seen. Although im not normally one of those "your a true fan/not a true fan" stuck up elitest otaku's or whatever, I gotta say, if you dont like this movie, you are not a true fan of anime or just movies in general, and in a way I feel sorry for you that you cant appretiate something truely great.

Well, I hope Spirited Away lives up to everything it's touted to be. I don't want this being another Princess Mononoke where everyone is blinded by the pretty artwork and doesn't see how mediocre it is.

alternatefutures wrote:Hmm... I don't know if that works Misty. I mean, most anime is done ass-backwards. First comes the art, then the voice. So, really, the Japanese track probably has little difference with the English track in terms of its creation.
I know that their animation is done first then dubbed. That is backwards from how american animation is done, yeah

what I mean is, all the animation doesn't appear at once. They have the liberty of making the script first, designing the character and then changing something at the liberty of the director who also dictates the actors. In that way, the characters are mouch more designed over time than being thrust into the role....and dub actors often watch the subbed version for inspiration. Aside from dialogue, they don't have as much freedom to 'fit' the character other than their voice alone and with little to no development so much as fitting the character.

whew. I had to rush off to work earlier so my post lacked a lot of explanation huh :)

Princess Mononoke... mediocre? Hmm... I think I'd have to disagree there. And I can tell you I wasn't "blinded by the pretty artwork."

It was something different from Miyazaki and it was good. I know you're not saying it was bad, but I think mediocre isn't giving it enough credit. And it might've even been overhyped, but it was still good.

And from all accounts (personally), Spirited Away is amazing. I haven't seen it, but I hear from a few trusted sources that it is really good.

And Garylisk, you are absolutely right. In most cases, I prefer the subbed. But... really all that matters is whether it is good or not. I'm not going to hear good dubbing and say, "Wait wait... I like subbed, screw this!" Yeah I'm glad you said it that way, makes things a lot simpler. :D

HentaiMaster: Sorry, I got carried away... plus I was kinda joking.

And I agree, spirited away is a great movie.

I feel sorry for you.

Oh and dont worry Garylisk, I know you were joking around. I just wanted to take the opportunity to make it clear that I am capable of appretiating things that dont involve massive amounts perversion.

Yeah, I know. Ignorance is bliss, only wish I was :) Princess Mononoke is exactly what I would expect if Hollywood ever began making anime; lots of money at an average script.

And I don't know Misty, I haven't seen much evidence of the Japanese character development having an edge over English. In dubs where they get competent VAs (determine this in the first episode of the series) the characters develop just as naturally in English vs. Japanese. Now, granted if you're looking at a Slayers or Saber Marionette J you aren't getting that because the VAs are of low calibre, but you'd get the same results with a B team of Japanese seiyus.

Alternatefutures-Are you on crack the slayers dub is the best dub ever! Lisa ortiz is way better as lina then megumi is.

Love Hina-I wish people would stop saying Kitsune sounds like a southern belle in the dub. She sounds like some kind of Cajun wench from new orleans not a refined scarlett type. On dvd 4 they have this misleading thing that says the making of love hina. All it is is fat wendy doing multiple voices including suus it's a horrible dub.
