I agree this software can't be totally new. The Blockbuster commercials, the Quizno's baby, miscellaneous commercials and movies with live action talking cats and dogs...they can't be editing these frame by frame.
For the rest of us, there's the (not so) old fashioned method.
Sitepal has something similar for 2D (and it's very creepy, IMO).

While its not totally new, it might be the first commercial product you can buy. For example the software used to make the fight sequences in The Two Towers was somethign that they made to use in that movie. I don't think its for sale to a consumer at this point. Perhaps they keep it inhouse for the next movie they make, or whatever, but you can't buy that specific application.
It will be intereting to see how this is when it gets released. I wouldn't mind trying it.
