and we care, why?
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

While I basically agree with you. I must say that I have never actually met any fans who are truly as you describe. Sure I've met one or two that have a little fun with the alphabet, but other than that it seems you are describing what some people may come off as by writing online. This is not necessarily their true personality, its just as they write.

As you say one cannot judge and understand the Japanese culture only from animation. One also cannot judge and understand a person based on what they write.

However, for the most part your rant was at least entertaining and informative. I did realize that the Japanese use many foreign (usually English words), but I did not realize that it was as pervasive as you say. I do of course eventually want to go to Japan to see how it is myself.

I actually have two questions if anyone can answer them.
1. What is the Japanese word for Japan?
2. Does the exchange rate from American Dollars to Japanese Yen really make it very expensive to travel in Japan?

Thanks,
Alex

The word for "Japan" in Japanese is "Nihon" or "Nippon" (as far as I've seen, they're used interchangeably, but I may be wrong on that)

So what if we like anime? What's wrong with that? Maybe I obsess over somethings a little to much, but no one complained(until now) if you hate all anime then don't even post here...

And, your acting just as stupid as your little 'rant' claimed anime fans to be.

That wasnt my rant btw...Just a rant some guy I know on the net gave me a link too. And if you can't handle the truth, please dont come crying to me. Oh yeah btw I know the anime fans described in the rant don't describe their real personality (I hope), but it's dead on as far as their online personality goes (for many of them anyway)

I've never been to Japan, but typically the exchange rate seems to go in favor of the dollar. It usually ranges from 120-140 yen per dollar. Japan (especially around and in Tokyo) is not cheap, or so I've heard. As an example, market prices for native rice, per kilogram (2.2 pounds). Rather costly compared to the US. Those prices do not include dealer profit markup, I think, either.

May as well plug XE.com, which provides currency exchange rates.
