If I recall correctly in vol. 4 extra features said the japanese asked for a southern accent for kitsune, Su was supposed to be given a accent too and the VA did indian and they agreed with it.
I think the dub is fine, except motoko's VA I don't care for much, but I always liked Shinobu's VA, I don't care much for southern accents in any anime unless its something like trigun. Part because its outta place, and part because I just don't like them, maybe if I was from the south I'd like it betta. I esp. dislike the resturant owner in kenshin having one.

Havent got the 4th disk yet, the first two just got released around here?
Did you watch the Japanese one first or went straight to the dub?
Think that might just be it, get used to one thing, and if they change it too drastically...

Garylisk, why would I hate your decision to not always like dubs. Unlike you, I could care less what you prefer. I prefer dubs, yet you seem to think I am wrong for that. I don't mind the Love Hina dub, mostly because I am not too damn picky with how they should sound. I seem to have quite a lot more tolerance for dubs than many of you people do.

That's the most reasonable thing I've ever read in a dub-sub war.Garylisk wrote:Again, take it from someone who doesn't prefer dubs or subs, just prefers QUALITY!
People like what they think is good and most of the time I think that lies in the orginal concept of a show. They casted the characters when they had story, but directors develop anime like any other story. The character benefits from having a certain voice actor and they grow to complement each other through experience, time, story, and of course, direction from the creative staff. Most dubs lack this since they must grow to fit the character and few (in my opinion) ever do.
As for reading subs....when I watch sub anime I don't even notice I am reading them and I don't miss any action. When I think back to watching an anime that I saw subbed, I see the scene not the words. So I have nothing to stop me from watching it the way it was originally made.
About the kansai thing...I can appreciate their attempt at trying to recognize the character had a regional accent. But a southern accent has a lot of connotations that don't fit the character they gave it too. How to recognize a kansai accent then? Dunno. Somethings just can't be translated. For things like "no da" and "oro", I think they should have left them in as they were said. Yes it would sound weird, but if people went to find out why they could learn a little about the original anime itself.
Of course then you'd be bombarded by the 'what does it mean' questions.....so I guess there's no one answer after all

Hmm... I don't know if that works Misty. I mean, most anime is done ass-backwards. First comes the art, then the voice. So, really, the Japanese track probably has little difference with the English track in terms of its creation.
As for keeping the kansai dialect in the English dub, that's just a bad idea. 1) You'd have to insert a lot of Japanese in there which could make them so difficult to understand that you'd have to have the subs on anyway. 2) You don't watch dubs to learn about Japanese culture, and most people don't watch anime to learn about Japanese culture either. So why include something that most people would not care to see and would never occur in real life? 3) By that logic then shouldn't all the character's have Japanese accents?
And thanks for the answers kthulhu and Garylisk. Now, the question: Would the dub have benifited from giving her a Boston accent? And if Nappy is correct, then doesn't that make the Southern accent the correct one?

OH MY GOD BIG DEAL!! Like the series wasnt annoying in the first place. Naru is the most annoying character in all of anime. She completely ruined any chance the series had of being enjoyable. This guy is in place full of chicks, and might have a chance to actually score, but no, Naru has to go out of her way to constantly cock-block the guy and then beat the shit out of him. That is just way to depressing to be funny. \
Seriously, I wish the series started with Naru getting shot in the head, in a really really graphic manner. You know, something animated by Mad House. Probably involving her getting chopped in half vertically, fusing back together, and then getting killed over and over again. Then I might have been able to watch it.

Re: ....
True true. I mean, Keitaro should've just said "Fuck this and the promise, I'm getting that fine-ass Mutsumi". And that would've been a better ending, but no, the manga was still going. I mean, Mutsumi LIKED him, was like his female equal, she liked Liddo-kun, and most importantly, SHE DIDN'T FUCKING BEAT HIS ASS ALL THE GODDAMN TIME (or ever). And Mutsumi was a better character, less "grrl power". Maybe he's a masochistic character or something. I'm sure there's a doujinshi out there that can verify thatTheRealNeoHentaiMaster wrote:OH MY GOD BIG DEAL!! Like the series wasnt annoying in the first place.
