Someone might want to add a disclaimer in the rules that states that your identity will probably be revealed after the voting is over.doughboy wrote:Seriously, let some of us lose with the same anonymity that we competed with.Ashyukun wrote:Bah, that's no fun. No, I'm not joking.

I was someone like you last year myself. After final voting why would it stay a secret? The whole point of blind judging is so people vote fairly and based solely on the quality of the video. After judging is concluded this purpose is null and void.Scintilla wrote:Someone like me, who's never submitted before this year, would have no way of knowing.

But why is it their responsibility to spill the beans?Corran wrote: After final voting why would it stay a secret? The whole point of blind judging is so people vote fairly and based solely on the quality of the video. After judging is concluded this purpose is null and void.
Granted, it's really not that big of a deal, but it is a bit of a surprise.
As to why I didn't think it would happen, several participants last year walked around the convention asking each other, "So which Pro video was yours? No kidding, wow!" But now that it's been revealed that all of us will have access to the declassification: it makes that wonderful personal, face-to-face encounter null.

I think it would be more fun for them not to be revealed until after the awards ceremony just because I think it would be that much more interesting for the 'reveal' of who did what (at least of the winning ones) to come before the full audience and assembled creators instead of online. More succinctly put: the purpose would be to add to the suspense.Corran wrote:I was someone like you last year myself. After final voting why would it stay a secret? Besides, I don't think there's that much time between the end of the final voting and the con itself anyway- it would just be one less thing for them to have to worry about, and as was pointed out it does make for interesting banter at the convention. I seem to remember still discussing with people at AWA who might have made which video. I just think it would be more fun that way, IMO.

I can understand where you are comming from but even so you said you did not even know they did this last year. Some may not enjoy waiting to being surprised at the con. Self-imposed ignorance is the key if you truely want to have fun being surprised in this way and allow others that want to know when it is fair to release such information.Ashyukun wrote:I think it would be more fun for them not to be revealed until after the awards ceremony just because I think it would be that much more interesting for the 'reveal' of who did what (at least of the winning ones) to come before the full audience and assembled creators instead of online. I haven't entered the contest this year and I'm not staff so I can't answer that; however, I imagine they did it in the past because those that wanted to know after the final voting would be asking soon afterwards and they were being proactive.doughboy wrote:But why is it their responsibility to spill the beans?

But I don't remember what's happened in more recent years. I'm pretty sure all was revealed before the actual con every year, though.

Actually Dough they got revealed last year too... but the conversations are mostly about putting a face with the video...
And apologizing if you called someones video a vapid waste of disk space.
In any case hehe... I missed the listing last year and I think several others did... but it was available.
