pfn_list_corrupt

Post by Unlimited Rice » Tue Aug 16, 2005 9:32 pm

I recently just put a new computer together and well. I try to install windows xp pro..

after that. it trys to boot up, except I'm getting this pfn_list_corrupt error..

I looked around.. and they all said something about drivers and ram..

some suggested to use memtest to check out the ram.. but well. I can't get it to work(on floppy).. I tried setting the first boot device to removable(floppy) but nothing happens, it just skips on to trying to boot up and getting the error again

i'm hoping it's not the ram though.. b/c i only just got the parts for my new computer like within a few weeks ago.

drivers, they said something about it. i'm not sure where, can't find the page b/c i've looked through a lot..

i need help?

Make sure your system is running at it's stock speeds. I tried installing overclocked recently and I got similar errors, particularly my RAM was running just 4MHz over rated speed. Admittedly it should handle that no prob, but I'm kinda running this box on the edge as it is.

i found another site that said to take out the ram from the 4th slot and i did.. and it works! .. now i just gotta find out how i can put it back in without the errors..

Ah, if it's saying to put it in a different slot, then I would guess at it being a limitation with your motherboard. Don't feel bad about it though. For instance my compute allows me to occupy 3 banks safely, and each stick of RAM I have has chips on both sides, meaning each stick occupies 2 banks.

Naturally if I put in 2 sticks, that makes 4 banks and you can expect instability. I can run it with 6 banks after messing with the BIOS, but then again this is an exceptionally stable board.

What I'm saying is that it might be a character flaw, in which case keep the RAM where it works if possible.
