In that case, there's no question of property rights, but you'd probably want to check some art sites (www.deviantart.com as an example) for an amature artist. If you want an amv-maker, I've seen some videos that were made entirely in After Effects that might as well not have used *any* anime footage. Match one of the effect-editors up with an anime-style artist and you should be fine.
Speaking of just such a video... ;-)

This is a bizarre coincidence that TaylrMayd made this post just as I was visiting this forum for the first time in months.

TaylrMayd -- If the Oct/Nov timeframe works for you, I might be interested in doing something that is legally squeaky-clean (not for pay). As others have pointed out, however, a little more up-front information would reduce the shadiness factor of your postings....

How much are you willing to pay :twisted:
He's paying for the time not the the video....
Legal grey area, as long as he dosn't charge people to
see the videos and is using it for promotional purposes
only. It should be fine :)

No. For it to even begin to work they way you're suggesting, the editor would need all the sources provided to them- and should also be confirming that the rights to all the sources being used have been secured (or at least have a signed affidavit from the 'employer' asserting that the rights have been secured and absolving them from any legal implications of the work- don't even know if that would be enough though) before beginning work on the project. In most cases editors are dealing with newly show footage filmed by either someone else on the crew or by the person hiring them to do the work so there generally isn't a problem with the video sources, but if dealing with songs in something, the rights have to be secured.

"Using it for promotional purposes only" is not an absolution either. What would it be used for promotional purposes to do? Duh. Gain popularity, sell records- make money. We as AMV editors tend to justify our lack of securing the rights to things (in general) as fairly insignificant because it's just being done for our entertainment and that of others, we get little if any compensation for it- we easily spend infinitely more money in making AMVs than we get back. I have yet to see an AMV contest with a monetary award- the biggest award I've seen was a plasma TV from a contest in Florida a while back, but that was a serious outlier data point. Almost all of them give out trophies or certificates with no value other than bragging rights with the occasional DVDs and CDs that have been donated. When any kind of appreciable payment is given for the use of IP that you don't own, it's just asking for all kinds of legal trouble.

I appreciate the feedback. My initial intention was for this to be a casual thing just to give to some of the artists I have been working with. I figured they would get a kick out seeing other's ideas with their music. Grammatical errors aside (I did not proofread), the only reason that I offer compensation is out of respect to editors for the time and effort.

Wow, your site looks like every other poorly-designed site for a small underground rap label. The color scheme is pretty ugly, you only have one info page out of two artists, and that page doesn't even seem to have a link to any audio samples...

Seriously, if you want a music video, get a 3-chip MiniDV camera and make a no-budget one. They're not that expensive and you'll actually have something useful (albiet admittedly low-quality).

Hey you will get no disagreement here. I am not responsible for the web site. I have told that to the "person" in charge. The problem not that he doesn't believe that the site sucks, I am sure he knows. He is just doesn't believe that it makes a difference. What I will do is cut and past your comment and hopefully that will put a fire under him to fix it. Thanks for the response and suggestion though.

bum wrote:Like everyone's allready said, paying someone to do an amv is something you should just forget about. It's illegal, imoral and just plain selfish on the editors part to accept money. However ya should post some of your tracks, their are people who might take a certian liking to one.
Exactly =) I Quote here.

A fairly better thing you can do is ask to a creator if he/she could do that or that for you, this is at least what I think. You can ask for a favour, or at least propose some concepts, and as bum said, someone could take it :P
