Dude, if you're automatically replying to defend the practice when someone criticizes it, then I think you know it's a bad thing too.Rockermonkey91 wrote:con on Zarxrax its not that bad but i hear u out i dont think its that bad isnt not based on opinion
Here's the cycle of ignorance:
1. Editor makes an AMV with fansubs
2. AMV looks bad
3. People give the AMV low scores
4. Editor complains
5. People tell him that if he doesn't want his video to look like shit, he should buy the DVDs.
6. Editor complains about cost
7. People point to editors more than willing to pay for R2s, box sets, etc.
8. Editor whines more.
9. GOTO 1

I can understand if you don't want to spend a lot of money if you want to make only a single project with that anime. But there is still a much better way than using fansubs - lend them from friends, rent them at a videotheque or something the like. If you want them for more than one project and still think it's too expensive, watch out for sales, check ebay etc.

Good luck getting everything Naruto in rawgodix wrote:Just to be pedantic here, quite a few shows, including some of the ever popular Naruto, just aren't avalable yet in other ways. Sometimes fansubs have got to be used, although even then it's better to try and get raws.
All kidding aside, renting might not always be an option. Where I live (small town in holland), there are no shops that carry anime dvd's like in the usa where they have suncoast, etc. We haven't even got a videotheque and our library doesn't have any dvd's for rent. Being in a small town as this, finding friends into anime is hard. There isn't even an anime-club at my university where I could find other fans. Hell, my primary dvd-shop is located in Belgium and they import from the US, adding to the costs.
Not to defend Rockermonkey, and everyone should purchase dvd's, but it's not always that simple.
