Is it possible for an AMV to action/lyric/beat/whatever synch to the point where it detracts from the video?
If so then I've done it. I didn't want to, but they made me!! Personally I think it pulls too much attention from your story but both CAN coincide just it's harder to do.

I know my videos tend to have too much action sync. The first DVD-quality one I made is just that. It's an action video, pure & simple. The only special thing is the slow part near the end.
To counteract that, my next video had almost no action sync. If you do the same concept a bunch of times in a row, no matter what it is, you're gonna get stale. I say keep working & doing different things.
I did a really long video where pretty much the whole thing was action driven, but I also showed romance, fear, & regret for different characters. I'm not perfectly happy with it (I wish I could have realized a better way to beat sync than the cheesy effects I used), but I think I learned a lot.
Then there's the emoon video. Eye candy, pure & simple. I like to watch it with my face 1" away from the monitor for maximum effect. I have REAL bad ADD, so it takes a lot of fast action & quick cuts to hold my attention. My videos generally do that well. That video had no substance..but it was fun to watch!

Wow, -20 respect points for Beo.

I second that :o
WTF no one likes Tsukin?
No, lotsa people like Tsukin.

Oversynching is pretty much the only problem I ever find with my videos. I have a bad habit of editting with a microscope, so to speak. I focus in on small bits to the point where I can, at times, lose sight of the big picture. Of course, since I'm familiar with the vids I make, it never occurs to me that anything's wrong until I realize that someone watching it for the first time might be like "zOMGMYEYESCANTFOLLOW!".
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

Personally I love Tsukin and his over editing. He makes it work by mixing it with mood/flow attributes of slower AMVs. I don't know how to explain it better but as long as your scenes match with your song, you can edit any way you want. It's SO HARD to edit like he does and make it work. Good luck to whoever tries.

I'm actually afraid we may have oversynched in our last video (see sig). We decided to liven up the instrumental (Iris, full version not radio edit) and may have overdone it. Plus we might have got the timing a little off as well. It was bugging us all through the end of the development process, but we just couldn't leave it unsynched. Possibly we've paid for it- I don't know, we've only got one (not very useful) opinion so far.
