Soap operas do 260+ episodes/year, doesn't mean that it's quality.
Who said they were quality?

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives....

Seriously, do what you want. Making what you want is the true mark of an editor, not winning awards and recognition. Heck, if you have a weird vision of the world, you may never get any of that crap. But if you're making something that makes you happy, then go for it. And Dokool is a dootyhead.

I find The bold and the beautiful, and passions strangely entertaining.

Oh dear. I guess my idea of doing a 12 minute+ video isn't going to work out well. XD; Damnit.
I've seen a few pretty long single-editor videos.. one of them I couldn't sit and watch non-stop (mainly because the video was appalling quality and the clips just dragged). But some videos can be pretty good if there's enough variation within the video and enough to keep someone interested. :D

I never thought I could realistically do anything more than around 8 minutes, but then I recently pulled off a (mostly non-AMV, but still related) 12-minute video.

Go figure
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

If you have talent, you can make any length of video work.

Take me for example.

Actually, it still hasn't worked on me.

On the other hand, it's safe to say that not one of your videos has yet worked on me immideately. And then after a while they all suddenly turned out to rock

On a serious note, some of my favorite videos are long ones.

Fluxmeister's "Blow Up The Outside World", his 8 minute Kite video, Wonka's "Die For Me", ect.

To me, length expectations are just one of the many limits people put on AMVs without any good reason. The argument of "its just to hard to hold an audiences attention for X amount of time" is complete bullshit and a cop-out. That can be said for any medium. "Man this song is too long, dude this book is way too long, omfgwtfbbq bro this episode never ends." Its all crap and I don't buy it for one second.

This is one of those AMV issues that shouldn't even BE an issue. If the video is good, its good. If its bad, its bad. The length of a video is just one of the infinite considerations to be taken into account when you try and create and experience.

Argument's like dokools are really infuriating to me because they represent so many other people's attitudes. The thought that no matter WHAT IT IS, under ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, over 6 minutes is just too long. Where is everyones attention span? Does anyone listen to albums? Do you all walk around with fucking ipods on shuffle listening to 30 second clips of songs? Do you all change channels every 2 seconds?

I'm not going to rant on this subject because people could dive into this topic for pages upon pages, but I would just like to express my frustration that people don't have the brain power or tolerance to sit through something that isn't immediatly satisfying. Its sad and pathetic.
