Naruto Footage

Post by -MajinLink- » Tue Jul 12, 2005 10:06 pm

I am sure this might have been brought up before but I have a question concerning the quality of the Naruto Anime episodes that hit the internet every week.

I am sure it is VHS quality, but does anybody know what the fansubbers do to touch up the quality of episodes? Any filters perhaps?

I am wondering because I would really like to touch up some of my own vhs footage.

Why do you say you're sure it is VHS quality? In reality, the vast majority of all modern day fansubbed anime uses footage that was either recorded directly into the computer via a capture device (from the live TV stream), or recorded to a TiVO or other such DVR unit, and then dumped onto the computer.

As for cleaning filters, I've never personally been a part of any fansub encodings, but I've heard that many fansubbers go to even much greater lengths for compression/quality than most AMV'ers do. I bet AD would have something to say on this subject.

If anything, the quality of the video is lessened in the fansubbing process through compression. Sadly, a lot of people who dowload fansubs are more worried about size than video quality, that's why the general stance here on using fansubs is "don't" (asside from the whole legal issue).

Actually you couldn't be more wrong if you tried lol.

Fansubbers sometimes have dedicated raw cappers (well the big groups do). They'll usually have a B2C2 card and dump the program, in some if not a lot of cases it's broadcast in HDTV which means resolutions much higher than fansubs, we're talking about 1280x720 or 1920x1088 which the raw provider will probably resize to 640x480 and make available to the encoders etc. HDTV is much much higher quality than DVD
