What needs to be compiled and mastered for a dual-layer DVD is completely different than what needs to be compiled and mastered for a single-layer DVD. You're talking two different final versions that will need to be created and tested on the AWA side of things. It's irrelevant for us sending stuff in, except for the issues with possible errors on the mastering side... but it just sounds like needless work that could be done away with by not even bothering with dual-layer blanks, which (it sounds like) no-one's going to (be able to) send, anyway.
We've already had several mail-ins with the dual-layers, IIRC.

There are a couple of reasons we wanted to try dual-layers, but I'd have to haul Wayne in here to give the correct details. (Everyone be glad that I know what I don't know and know how to delegate.) I believe it was partially in response to people complaining about quality issues in the mass-produced judging tapes.

Geh... DVDs. Some of this outdated terminology gets stuck in your head and just won't get out...

Actually, credit should go to Vanyel for that. I had forgotten about it, too.

(BTW, Matt, in this forum we're allowed to edit posts.)

Some software (e.g. pgcEdit) will allow you to set the layer switch at a desired point.

Question:

If my studio mate is not entering the contest but I am,

1) should I list her on the list of "Full (Legal) Names of Group Members"?
2) if yes to 1), do I have to get her signature for the "Group Member Signatures"?

I don't think I quite understand this part. I guess I should talk to wayne about it. but I dont see how the quality suffer upon burning, rather than the quality at which people submit their videos in.

Oh well

One of the DVDs did not play well last year for a lot of people. I think that is what he was refering to.

As far as quality issues go, I don't think I'm alone in saying that I'd much rather pay $1.50 for 6 DVDs worth of decent quality videos that I'm only watching to judge a contest and probably won't watch more than once, then pay around $15-$20 for 3 DVDs worth of excellent quality videos that I'm only watching to judge a contest and probably won't watch more than once.

But, that's just me.
