me and Mr. Pilkington kind of did this.. not really dualing but more of co-op.. we used the song Forgot About Dre. Pilk did Dre's part and i did Eminems part.. also we did the same thing with Guilty Conscience.. it isnt 100% complete though, but their both rather decent..

You could always try something like that for your AMV IE track at AWA this year.

i donno if this counts, but me and my friends though not dueling sort of did this with our MEP it wasnt a matter of competition though (link in sig)

basically we all had the same song, same source, and all decided to edit pieces, granted we tried to work together rather than duel... but it was interesting to see the different styles come together into one project...

It turns out the SMAHUT video is exactly what I was thinking about.

I guess using the terms "versus" and "duelling" are misleading, as it seems to give everyone the impression that this idea is competitive in nature, which it shouldn't be. I just stole those terms from the music world, for lack of imagination. The idea really is to be collaborative, and to synthesize two different ideas into one.

That video is a sort of collaboration. Rather than the editors editing one certain part of the segment, they all made a video to the song and then I think LCY picked up the be st scenes in their AMVs and edited them into the AMV. How the hell they managed not to use the same scenes, I don't know. =|

That's exactly what happend (well i picked up the best scenes of each amv with olw).
If you look carrefully at the director's cut version which show every individual amv and the final one, you can see some of us used the same scenes at the same time whereas when we edited this music video (during hollidays) we didn't hve seen others' members videos to keep our style and ideas up.
Seems like we were lucky enough to not choose exactly the same scenes at differents places ;)

Here's what I think would be interesting:

Find a really good "versus" song, then have two editors take the two original songs (will work better if they have not heard the mix) and edit full videos to them. The coordinator then picks and chooses the best part of each video using the DJ-mixed song as the audio.

The best part is that there is a random element involved (the DJ's cuts) so no one knows just how it will turn out.

I think that's a pretty sweet idea, but the one shortcoming I see is that you're limited to pre-existing duelling songs (unless we have some really good audio mixers sleeping on the .Org), which to my knowledge would keep the genre limited to dance music.

Not to say the idea's any worse, but I can't say I've ever heard of duelling metal songs.
