how to use DVD footage for amv's

hey im just beginning to figure out the whole amv thing, I keep seeing from everyone that you should use dvd footage for you amvs, but how do i do that? Any help would be appreciated.

That is exactly what you want to use. Many of us refer to it as EADFAG (or in a jokingly manner say Read <a href=http://www.a-m-v.org/guides/avtech31/>ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides</a>, meaning Read Ermac & Absolute Destinies Friendly Anime Guide) and it is pretty much the "bible" for encoding/decoding of most types of footage.

However, when you go to that link, you might get intimidated how much actual reading your going to have to do. Now, above all things, I highly suggest that you read everything in that guide so that you have a much better understanding than the following can bring you.

I've created a visual tutorial basically from start to finish for being able to rip and import an editable source into premiere that is DVD quality:
