Whats better to work off for getting amv clips

Post by burntresistor » Wed Jun 22, 2005 8:31 pm

Should I just work with the vobs directly and cut the scenes I need for the amv or Just encode it all and work off the avi?

It honestly depends on what you're comfortable with and what's convenient for you. Personally I prefer running the VOBs through an AVS file and clipping the HuffYUVs, but I'm sure other editors do things differently.

I've got a super-duper mega bitchin computer with an assload of ram, fast hard drives... the lot. Editing an avs file still gets lag.

Personally, I think that's the best way to go... as it has less steps to deal with, and you're likely to get the best quality that way. Normally however, I save the file to a high quality Mjpeg and edit that. The Mjpeg has reasonable quality, and good space savings.. and edits extremely smoothly.

There's no magic codec or button for skill though.....

Hm. I've never had any lag problems when I used a VOB, the only major issues I ever have are with the audio. When I import it into my editing program the audio is either:
a). Not there
b). The wrong audio altogether. Once, mysteriously, no matter how many times I re-ripped or imported it, a Lain VOB played audio from Evangelion: Death and Rebirth that I had ripped previously. I don't understand how it happened, and I never solved that mystery. Though it was probably the fault of my editing program.
c)The right audio, but not in time with the video.
or
d)Perfect.

Though the last option is rare.
