Preview Codec?

Post by Kionon » Tue Jun 21, 2005 11:00 am

For those of you that have software with preview renders, what codec do you render in? Compressed and Huffy seem to be just a wee bit much to handle for me. Anyone have any suggestions?

I usually don't use the preview rendering feature. I export preview files with to DivX or XviD and test them outside of the editing program.

...How do you see that your transitions/effects worked like you wanted them to, then?

I usually use either MJPEG or Cinepac. Isn't there an MJPEG codec that comes with the newest AMVapp? I forget...

Never tried MJPEG, but cinepak is disgusting. O.o

The transitions and effects get exported too, since they're part of the timeline. I'm pretty sparse on using effects, though, and the only transitions I tend to use are crossfades.

On my computer, Premiere would just as long to write a preview (that would play back terribly, I might add) as it would to just export a low-quality DivX render of the work I'd done sofar. That's why I stopped using the preview function.

Or was that about the codecs?

You can preview transitions in realtime with premier when you scrub the timeline.
