Im trying to figure out whether or not the high pitched, juvenile squeals of Sum 41 officially make them J-Pop.angelx03 wrote:Like this MAD?SSJVegita0609 wrote:In my eyes MADs are like ambigously pedophilic trips to extremely loud, moderately irritating, and bright candy stores, whereas AMVs are like music videos.Zarxrax wrote: In my eyes, its like the MAD creators are a PS2, and amv creators are an NES. Theres a lot of damn good NES games. There's also a lot of good PS2 games. PS2 games have a huge advantage over NES games in terms of graphics and such, but NES games work better for the VG3 project

The best effects are the ones you don't notice.

Maybe, but that isn't unique to jpop. I could say that about speedcore, speed metal, happy hardcore, ...It has no soul, you cant understand the lyrics, the tempo's are about 300% faster than your heart beats, the voices could break glass, and its not played by people.
Oh, and please don't lump all Japanese popular music into one category, because it's not all the same. The argument here is the same argument against generalization of any musical category.

Personally, I've always operated the assumption that there are large numbers of bad French-created AMVs, bad Russian-created AMVs, and bad MADs... it's just that most of us, not being on those scenes, don't ever see them (we only see the really good stuff). My assumption was false?JCD wrote:[I humbly think that a-m-v.org had the lowest standards of all those. Who of you didn't watch a really bad AMV shortly after you found out and were maybe even amazed by it? I was at that time. I thought I could do as good as that and didn't put much effort into my first videos. Now, what is if there wouldn't be a large number of bad videos, but only really good ones with lots of effort put in them? I clearly wouldn't have thought the same way creating my first videos and furthermore, the community wouldn't accept them as any good. So I would have to do better.
That is what it was propably like in the other communities above.

and make more dbz mads.

This topic is inherently devisive because we're all AMV editors and therefore can not really be impartial, plus it's way too easy to take things personnally.
Not to mention that it ties in heavily with the effects debate that has been the largest deviding factor around here in a while....
That being said I think that there have been some very interesting opinions put forth by various people.

Thank you! To me, about 1 out of 4 of the singers have high squeaky voices. And alot of times, I love it, like Viewtiful Joe's anime ending theme and Naruto's 3rd intro.trythil wrote:Different tastes...Beowulf wrote: How can you enjoy this music? HOW can ANYONE? It really just baffles me.

I like Japanese music alot because it can oftenly be very random. Rap is Rap, Rock is Rock, but a J-pop can sound so crazily different from another J-pop song. To me, J-pop is all genres rounded up in one "if you count J-rock with it.
People who say that MAD's are random and have no story make aren't thinking clearly. Like someone briefly said earlier: You might not know the game/anime, don't understand Japanese, and ........your dumb!! "I had one more point, but I forgot it"

Once again your point is completely wrong on a fundamental level. Within 'Rap' there are many genres and styles stemming from different production values (for example, beats from back when hip-hop was just starting out in the 80s compared to, say, the Neptunes) as well as different lyrical approaches (Slick Rick vs. Eminem vs. the Beastie Boys vs. Tupac vs. Little Jon). Within 'Rock' there's a variety of sounds and methods (for example, the Beatles vs. Pink Floyd vs. Incubus vs. Hendrix vs. Metallica vs...)Rurounikeitaro wrote: I like Japanese music alot because it can oftenly be very random. Now, I like J-Pop as much as the next well-reasoned guy (which I don't count you as since you have this Japan > alles thing going on), but I think the biggest problem with J-Pop is that it's over-produced on an even greater scale than pop music is produced in the US. Female J-Pop is about as cookie-cutter as it gets, but they've got it down to such a science that you can't help but listen to it anyway. If I took the average non-otaku person and had them listen to Ayumi, Nami Tamasaki, Kumi Kouda, Saeko Chiba, Utada, etc etc etc, in a blind test, I'm betting they wouldn't be able to tell the difference and you know it.
Read Idoru by William Gibson and ask yourself how far away we are from that.
Personally, I prefer J-Rock over J-Pop, purely because rock bands in Japan have much more leeway in developing their own sound.
