Editing in After Effects
I know about some videos that are been completely edited on After Effects, using it as a complete editing program, not only as support. What do you think about this? This can be useful, it is better learn to do this than work on both premiere and AE.. What are your opinions?

I've done some small shorts and other things completely in After Effects. However I have found that sorting through footage, and doing simple things like cuts, fades, and such are much faster in premiere.
however, the main reason why i usually sort things out in premiere before I go to After Effects, is that it is MUCH easier to sync clips to the audio in premiere.

This is a very nice touch on Adobe's part. The two programs are now much more integrated.Machine wrote:If you use Premiere Pro, the key frame function are relatively the same in both programs.
I would start with premiere and work up to After Effects because AE has a much steeper learning curve.
Even the most effects intensive videos would probably benifit from the use of premiere to organize the various componates and synch them to the music.

I've made some video compleatly in After Effects. The biggest proble is that if you use a ton of cuts and clips, you need a seperate layer for each making the timeline huge...
I normally will do all my manipulations for clips in After Effects and then export them back to premiere where I'll compile them into the video..

editing an entire video in AE is possible and many have done it, but i think it's much easier to edit in premiere then goto AE. for As The World Crashes Down, i edited the entire video in premiere then did all the masking. same thing with the ace combat zero trailers. i just lay down what i want to be there, unmasked, and work on it later. for the masking i did, i export two versions of the same clip from premiere (masked and un masked) and then complete the scene in AE. export it from AE then insert it back into my premiere timeline where it belongs, simple
i also started a comedy video a few months ago which i ended up editing the video at the full frame size then i took each "cut" and exported them seperatly so i could manipulate them in AE. i probably could've done it faster if i just used AE, but then again, this way is easest for me.

Fixed. Remember, friends and neighbors, Adobe is the company responsible for both Premiere AND After Effects (not to mention Photoshop).genestarwind21122 wrote:It depends on your computer for one thing. I don't see really any purpose in editing in After Effects unless your whole video our a good majority of it is special effects that can't be done in Adobe Premiere.

Might be cool to learn how, but I don't think I'll never need to... I recently realized that I can't imagine/conceive/visualize effects in 3D, only in 2D, and for that Premiere (and the occasional Photoshop) is good enough.
