Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon
I really don't understand the connundrum of Luna, Artemis and Diana. If they're cats, then why can they turn into humans and why does Artemis look like a girl??
Beware the Princess of the UnderWorld, mwahahahahahaha....*coughs*. ^_^;

Re: Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon
I think this has been explained quite early on in the series. They're not ordinary cats - they're guardians and advisors send from the past. How and why they got into cat form... I'll let the harder-core moonies handle that, although I think there's no one specific explanation. Needless to say though, they're not your ordinary cat.underworld_princess wrote:I really don't understand the connundrum of Luna, Artemis and Diana. Artemis look like a girl?... as a cat or as a person?... As a cat - I don't know... As a person - ever heard of "bishounen"? A popular style of character design which prominently features effemiate-looking men...
That's the official consensus. I'm yet to see any signs pointing otherwise, although it's all obviously just implied. Heavily implied at that.what is the deal between Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune? I heard that they're lovers. What do you think?

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

As one of those former hardcore moonies, I know much about both these questions. I am sadly responsible for some portion of sailor moon fanfiction that should be burned. Unfortunately teh intarweb does not forget. Moving on...
Otohiko is correct there is no specific reason why the moon-kitties are the way they are. I believe circumstantial evidence suggests that they are smaller, more manueverable, and aside from the moons on their heads, they are also inconspicous. This makes them ideal scouts and relatively easily taken for granted. Since it is their responsibility to find the senshi (and in Artemis's case, the princess, even if he was wrong), they must be able to hide in plain sight from the enemy as they search.
Furthermore, I don't believe they turn into humans. Humanoids, perhaps, but they're not human. Definitely not genetically human. And the kitties are no more or less sent from the past than the senshi are. Reincarnated and then activated when the time comes. Why they chose to stay in cat form has never been adequately explained. And why Diana chooses cat form especially, since Crystal Tokyo and the 31st century hold no threat to her is even more confusing. True, her cat form is understandable in the 1990s, but in the 3000s? I'm sure there's a fanfic about it somwehere.
As for artemis looking like a girl, Otohiko answered that effectively. His manifest humanoid self is a beautiful teenage boy. Although his personality does NOT match his manifestation in the slightest.
Haruka and Michiru are clearly together. One only has to look at the obvious signs of their courtship even outside of their senshi duties. They go on dates, hold hands romantically, even end up on a couples' game show. By far the best evidence is in the Super S movie where Haruka says something about being children forever, and Michiru makes a clearly sexual reference about being adults, and it's aimed directly at their relationship.
Hope that clears things up.

Kionon, has it almost correct
(Spoilers ahead)
The reason that Luna and Artemis are able to take on human-like forms is because they are descendents of the planet Mau. Luna came to the moon as an advisor to Queen Serenity and aide to the Princess. Luna was reincarnated along with Artemis and the people of the moon during the Fall of the Silver Millennium. Luna was sent to the future in the 20th century. It was Luna's mission to reunite the Sailor Senshi Team, and reawaken Princess Serenity etc etc.
In the future Luna and Artemis have the kitten Diana, who is an advisor to Chibi-Usa.
At one point, Usagi grants Luna her wish of becoming human when she falls in love with Kakeru, but Luna realizes the differences between them are too great (and Kakeru's in love with the other girl anyway). So Luna decides to remain a cat.
Mau is the planet that Tin Nyanko is from, she appears in volume 16 of the manga, (the Stars Series).
When Luna and Artemis see her, they recognize her and call her a "fake cat." She then reveals herself as Tin Nyanko, from the same planet as Luna and Artemis, Mau. Luna and Artemis scold her and call her a traitor for giving in to the enemy - but Nyanko retorts, saying that they are the ones who are traitors, because they abandoned their home planet. Tin Nyanko can no longer change to her cat form, because of Galaxia's bracelets. She becomes infuriated with Luna and Artemis, and consumed with the desire to destroy them. She informs them that their planet, Mau, has been destroyed by the Shadow Galactica Empire. She then causes Luna and Artemis to transform into humans.
Diana appears in her human form and tries to intervene, saying that people from the same planet shouldn't fight. Nyanko attacks Diana, transforming her back into a cat, but causing her to lose the ability to speak. Sailor Moon asks Tin Nyanko to open her eyes to the truth, but dozens of illusions of the villain dance before her eyes, so that she is unsure of which one is real. Nyanko then attacks Luna and Artemis, causing them to turn into cats again and lose their ability to speak. Nyanko gets beat up by the Starlights and returns to Galaxia and begs for a second chance, but Galaxia refuses to tolerate her failure and removes her bracelets, killing her.
In order for Tin Nyanko to gain her powers, she killed Sailor Mau, the senshi of her home planet, and stole her Sailor Crystal for Galaxia. Galaxia had promised her that she would eventually receive a Sailor Crystal of her own and become a true Sailor Soldier. Tin Nyanko has the power of "Galactica Puppet." The Materials Collection states that she manipulates scent, has nine lives, and is about the same height as Sailor Moon.

Same with me, although I've read summaries of it. I'd like to read it one day; if anything, Takeuchi's art is quite different from the anime and yet quite purtyKionon wrote:I have no experience with the manga. I go solely by the anime.
