x800 card in new system

x800 card in new system
I just installed a Radeon x800 Pci-E video card along with an Athlon 64 3500+. I went to test this new setup by playing a game, Tribes Vengeance. The fps counter says its playing at 170fps, but this video is skipping and hard to play in smoothly--this is the same in any game. Why is this happening. Any guesses?

First question, or rather the first implied suggestion is - have you tried any other games? It'd help if you checked that; also, it might help to update the drivers to the most recent version, which has been released just a couple of days ago.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I tried it with Splinter Cell, too. Same thing.
