(Feedback!) New Project A-kon AMV Contest for 2006

I was actually pretty cool about this when the Akon AMV Contest director cut me for time. My video was 8 1/2 minutes and was cut out of the contest to make it shorter (VASH:Desperado).

Personally I think that's a load of crap when I know that the only reason I was cut was to make room for about 3-4 more shitty videos.

Yes, you were very cool about this, and I really apreciate it. And, you are very right, your video was far superior to most of the videos shown and I was sad to see it go. Plus, I know you know I love watching your vids. I know I have told you so many times. Unfortunately, the rules were already set in stone and there was little recourse this year. It will be different next year, though I am not sure exactly how just yet. It's why we are here talking about this now and, now that I have autonomous control, I am very open to suggestions on how you would like to see this handled.

New judges are always a plus, and if they are AMV creators, even better because they know exactly that its Quality of videos vs Quantity. If you have 1 or 2 hrs of great videos the audience will love it. You give them 2 hrs of shitty stuff with only a few good videos....they end up hating the entire expereince.

I know I have already said this, but I would definitely like to see more AMV creators on the judges panel for exactly that reason. Additionally, I completely agree with your last statement, which is how I felt about this years and last years contest. Thanks for the feedback, Carlos.

Everything I would recommend has already been expressed by other creators. One way to maybe add more quality entries would be to open up FTP submissions for the contest. The easier it is for good AMV makers to submit quality videos, the better the contest will be. Also, it would be wise to advertise your contest in places quality amv editors would see it (such as here!). Lastly, if you wanted to continue the hentai fest contest, making it known you have one is always a plus.

EDIT: Oh yeah, another thing I noticed on the schedule was the AMV Panel and AMV Contest were scheduled at the same time. That is definitely not cool...

Btw, if I didn't say it earlier, You guys gave MJ the best Hentai Trophy to date! I tip my hat to you guys. This was the funniest moment the entire CON.

This is another great suggestion, and something I really want to do. Unfortunately, we have to go back to the convention for the capital resources to do this. (those of us who work in video, do it for free just in case you didn't know) I have a meeting with the convention heads to discuss a number of issues, this is on the list as one of them and I am hoping for a positive response. Just as a small FYI, some of the items on the docket for this meeting that affect the AMV contest are as follows:

- increased server space and bandwidth for submission and redistribution of the AMV contest
- increased capacity of the viewing room to 750-1000+ seats
- relocation of the AMV contest event to a location where we do not have to compete with noise from the Main Programming area
- improvements to the sound system to include an additional amp, sub-woofer, and 5.1 sound (this is also for other video events, after all everyone needs their H in surround sound... )
- scheduling time to perform a re-showing of the contest late Friday evening or Saturday afternoon before the awards ceremony (for those who could not make it in Friday afternoon)
- scheduling guaranteed time to air the contest and it's winners on AkonTV Saturday evening
- better projector quality

Once everything is settled, I will let everyone how it went.

Also a good suggestion and something I plan on doing this year for the AMV and HAMV contests. As always, we will also be doing an HAMV contest and giving away nifty prizes, just ask mexicanjunior...lol.

Lol. You know, that was an idea Ron and I came up with really late one night. I'm glad you guys got a kick out of it. We'll be doing something a bit different next year...it's a secret for now, but it should be good times.
