I don't think she really loved him, just kind of used him to fill that 'void' in one's life when they're lonely.Digitalex wrote:That's true although I wondered about Misato. Rei picked her up instead of Kaji. Maybe he didn't because he was already dead?
However, Yui came and picked up Fuyutski...
Hm.... So when people want to be individual again, they come back. I wonder how long before Shinji and Asuka are no longer alone with other people who wanted to be themselves....
I could also be that they saw the one they loved when they lost their AT field awake and concious. Misato was probably passed out on the floor at that moment. It was Rei that approached everyone. She morphed into the one they loved at the last moments. I wouldn't read too much into it to say that she was not in love with Kaji.

Yeah, I was thinking along the same lines that only the conscious people were able to see the ones they loved whereas Misato never really could because she was unconscious (however not dead yet) prior to Rei's visit and the explosion. I definitely believe Misato loved Kaji. She said it herself before passing out.

Asuka turns into Misato....
Speaking of turning into goo and the Instrumentality project, I just watched Ep. 25 a few minutes ago. The part where Misato's reason for living/whatever was explored, she says she wanted to dirty herself. But she loved Kaji because he accepted the real her.
Okay, that's cool and everything. But I just don't understand one thing. Shinji was watching as her and Kaji get it on, and Misato defintely did NOT want to show him that. oO; Then why the hell would she offer to have sex with Shinji if she didn't want him to watch her have sex?! I don't know if I'm just lookin' into this too deeply or whatnot, or if she's just bein' a hypocrite.

Re: Asuka turns into Misato....
Well, I saw Instrumentality as the tool which tore down walls that people hid their fundamental thoughts and beliefs behind. If you notice, most of the characters put up a front in the real world just to mask their fears and deficiencies. Instrumentality stripped that front to show the root cause of their suffering.Tainted_Eden wrote: Okay, that's cool and everything. But I just don't understand one thing. It's one of those chicken or the egg arguements. Do people tear down the barriers to become one with one another? or does becoming one with one another necessitate all the barriers being torn down?Digitalex wrote:Well, I saw Instrumentality as the tool which tore down walls that people hid their fundamental thoughts and beliefs behind. As for Misato being upset at what Shinji saw... there is a difference between having a week long sex marathon like she did with Kaji in college and just loving someone. The context can mean the difference between dirty and something special. Note that Misato, like many of us are not so concerned with what we do as we are about what people see of us.

In other words, yes, I was looking into it too deeply. I keep forgetting that some Anime characters as just as human as we are...
Or are we human? This world could just be one big SIM game for God, and we're his little computer pawns... oO;

According to Matt Greenfield of ADV, all of Evangelion was a flashback except for the last two episodes. Shinji was trying to straighten out events that had happened in his mind, so where they real? Were they hallucinations? Were they something created in the fertile mind of a 14 year old to maintain self worth? Who is to say? Anno by his silence encourages things like this. A fan at asked a question to Anno several years back about some of the ambiguities of the series. Anno didn't wait for the translator when he spoke in English "Too Bad".Tainted_Eden wrote:In other words, yes, I was looking into it too deeply. Anno is definitely an enigma when it comes to answering fan questions. As for Matt Greenfield, I have yet to see all of his commentaries on the Platinum DVDs but I take whatever he says with a grain of salt.bobbarker31 wrote:

Eva is an awesome series but... it's... so... messed... up!!!!!!! Everyone has their own messed up/confusing lives on that show! I think the main point of the series (um... never read manga so I'm just talking about the episodes) was to show how everyone sort of has their own problems and no one is perfect and everyone in the whole world is trying to just fit in and be "normal" even though, in my opinion, there's no such thing as normal. Everything and everyone is odd in their own little way, so why can't be just be ourselves? Because we're human, I guess...
To answer the origional topic's question, I think Asuka is a strong character--I mean, she was very well developed and was protrayed to where you know exactly how she'd react in a certain situation and why. That, in my opinion, is a strong character in any work of fiction. Was her actual character strong? Um, that'd be a no... because NO ONE'S character is "strong." We have our weak and strong points, but no one is better than anyone else... Why is this reminding me of Poke'mon?! There is supposedly no "strong" Pokemon because both have their strong points and weak points... Except then you go into the whole "what about the legendary Pokemon?" who are as strong as ever... whatever! Everything in the world has it's strong points and weak points--it's like a balancing thing, you know? Even the black hole has a weak point!! Not that I know what it is... Let me watch the Discovery channel and I'll get back to you on that.
Back to the subject... Asuka tries to show that she's a "strong character." She acts haughty, outgoing, superior, smart, strong (physically), and pretty much makes the statement of "I'm better than YOU!" especially to Shinji--those two are furious rivils, dude! She doesn't want anyone to notice that all she wants is attention... to feel wanted... to, in a sense, "fit in." It's naturally human nature to fit in... Perhaps it's a social thing, since we're apparently very social creatures... like monkeys!
But yeah, maybe I should shut up now... The point is I think the point the director or whatever was trying to make with the series is that all humans have the feeling of wanting to feel wanted, whether they were Misato-san, Shinji-kun, Rei... and Asuka. But since I've only watched the series once and don't remember it too well (sorry, I'm a huge InuYasha-Wolf's Rain-Full Metal Alchemist-Love Hina-Harry Potter-Fan and that's all my brain operates with!!!) I could be wrong... Can my friend let me borrow her Eva again already?????
Sayonara! ^_^
