Making an amv should I use footage with subs or not

I wnat to make an amv using the pokemon song for like an parody for Inuyasha opening and I'm only using footage from the openings and endings because they have the best quality only prouble is that I don't know if I should make it with those subs things or not

If you want to use the pokemon opening footage and ending footage then I recommend cutting out the subs and typing in your own. If you need help cutting out the footage let us know what program you are using and well help you out with that. I'm sure somebody here will help you out.

I'd say, don't use subs. One of the most consistent comments I've gotten on my video with custom subs is that people found them distracting. (Even though they were an essential part of the video)
Even on a video where they are used well used like: Requiem or Redemption they can be distracting.

If you want to add something like that, try going more with 'graphics' like the title graphic, or the chracter names instead of subs.

As for getting NON subtitled footage, www.netflix.com has trial period I believe.

Subs pretty much kill a video for me and I can't help but not think low of it.

Does that make me wrong? Maybe, but I can't help it since it's so easy to avoid subtitles in this day and age...I mean if nothing else just make the thing wide screen or put a black boarder along the top and bottom, or along the bottom and position it in the center(William Millbury has done such in many of his videos because he used alot of subbed VHS)...something.

And don't say "But I only have Windows Movie Maker!" because VirtualDub is free and downloads quick and can do it, so that's no excuse.

Just to play devil's advocate I'd suggest trying custom subs out. A lot of comments I've received on Last Exile compliment my creative use of subs at the beginning. It really applies to the situation whether or not subs will work for the video. In most cases it is safe to say they are more distracting than helpful.

I don't know if anyone else feels the same way, but by the end of the day all I'm really concerned with is whether or not I liked my finished video, and whether or not others liked my video, subtitles or no subtitles. If I see that others are entertained by my videos, then I'll know that I did something right, and not much else matters.

Hey, whatever floats your boat (or finds your lost remote). I'm not out to tell people "don't do this in this way" or "hey don't use that source for a video get the DVD!" or anything, but if you ask, I'm going to answer. He asked...so we're answering.

BUt yeah, I'm an anti-subtitle nazi. Sorry, but I really can't help it...even before I really knew what an AMV was I was like that, and when I saw AMVs I'd find on kazaa that had subtitles all over them it'd urk the hell out of me and I wouldn't have a desire to ever watch it again.

But eh, like I said, whatever floats your boat. If you like subtitles or don't mind them, that's you.

There's one thing I really don't get. If you can download a fansubbed episode, why don't you just download the raw one? Just poke around almost any fansub's website or forums, and you should be able to find out where they get their raw eps from. DL that, and use that for your footage. No subtitles, problem solved.

Really? I've never seen raw episodes for download like that (save the Live Action Sailor Moon series, since I actually buy my anime), but if people are going to download their stuff anyway (which I don't support btw, but it's not like I'm going to stop them), then I'd rather them atleast get those without subs all over them.

I actually think there should be a rule against uploading videos with subtitles all over them, that aren't intentional. But then I guess that wouldn't always be easy to distinguish. Meh.
