i can not tell if Noir is interlaced or progressive
it seems as i scan through it with VirtualDubmod 1.5.4.1 that it is progressive but sometimes i see a frame that is a little ify, does anyone know for a fact if its progressive or interlaced?

Interlaced vs Progressive is easy to see. When you have it in VirtualModDub, preview the input frame by frame.
When you do this, any movement will either produce a lined image or not. If you see a lined "ghost" image in the frame when something moves, it's interlaced.
If you do not, if the frames shift and look normal without a ghost image, then it is progressive and you do not need to do anything special.
You can deal with it in two ways:
- The guide way (deinterlace before working with the footage, Part 5 of the guide will help you with this)
- The post-processing way (edit with the interlaced footage, then deinterlace the footage at the end)
The quick and dirty way in post-processing is to:
- Choose Full Processing Mode, which will activate the Filters menu option under the Video menu.
- Select "Filters...", which brings up the filter window.
- Click "Add", then from the list that appears, select "deinterlace".
(Make sure deinterlace comes after the resize filter, if you want to resize your footage.)
Save your AVI in XviD format for space, using Full Processing Mode and the filters you need.
The footage will come out deinterlaced.
