Bum:
Watched your beta, so far I like. I didn't really like the tranistions at the 1 minute mark, but that's just because of the low vid quality. I'm sure they'll look much better in the full quality verison.

Update on my Section:
I should have a beta out too, in a couple of days. It will be for the latter half of 10:08 - 12:50 section. Specifically 11:00 - 12:50. I'm afraid my video will be to slow and simple for this complex section, so I've put a lot of effort to get this beta out. If it doesn't work for you all with the organ music, I'll switch it over to the first half of this section. Specifically 10:08 - 11:00.

Bum: hmm... you don't seem to have changed anything in the first part since the last beta I saw from you (liquidA, I think). I kinda like the zooming shots that you used in 0:43-0:46. I also liked the shot of the blinds and thought that it would've made a more concrete transition shot between the first and second halves. I noticed that you matched some fades and effects to the "humming" in the music.

Since you seem to be running out of ideas, here's something that I would do: The "humming" sound is something that remains pretty consistent throughout the second half of the track, so I'd choose a constant effect for all of the humming instances. I'd try out something like the increasing static-y-ness of this shot (taken from 2:05 of Bakadeshi's Angel's Redemption.) Another idea is to fade in a quavering line in the middle of the screen for the hums. (You know, like those visualization lines.) I'm sure there's a way to integrate it without letting it seem too extravagant.

Good luck finishing and polishing up the segment. Try to end your track with high energy, because it leads right into mine and mine starts with a definite whoosh. :P

____

Link revived for my beta. This is a very slightly updated version; the big holes are still there, but I've patched in the darkness near the ending and fixed a small timing issue near the middle. I reuploaded it in case anybody else wants to take a look. Hmm... any comments from Pen-pen himself?

Oh yeah, if anybody happens to notice any interlacing in the beta upon casual viewing, tell me right away. I've had to sacrifice a lot of speed to deinterlace this show, so there'd better not be a single blended frame that's visible when I'm done. :?

Jasper-Isis: Loved the new beta, and no interlacing noticed.

Update on my Section: I have a beta for the first thirty seconds done. The portion that covers the two characters as children. Link. I also have big chunks of the rest of my section, the middle and high school portions. But those areas aren't ready for beta just yet.

Coffee:

Watched the beta. Loved the style. The simplicity went surprisingly well with the rather complex music. The sliding bars at the beginning were pretty cool. :P

My suggestion is that you break up the shot at 0:14. It's kinda long, and it stretches out between two "stanzas" of the music, which makes the video lose some momentum.

The sketches from 0:22 to 0:24 look kinda blurry. Sharpening and increasing contrast could do it some good. If you have Photoshop, tweaking the levels settings might do the trick.

Personally, I find that decreasing color saturation by about 75% and playing around with hue gives "old video" more dimension than pure greyscale. You could try it and see what happens. :P

Can't wait to see what you've got next! Sorry this came kinda late, but... I wonder where everybody else in the group went?

Jasper: Thanks for the feed back.

I've used those suggestions to put out an updated and extended Beta. Link.
The shot at 0:14 is broken up and the sketches at 0:22 have been sharpened. I can't do anything about the black and white look however, its the anime itself that's black and white with an old film look. It's made covering lip flap quite a challenge so if anyone notices anything please let me know.

Sorry for the long silence, there have been a few things I had to take care of. Let me first say that I really enjoy what I'm seeing betawise. Maybe it's because this is the kind of videos I love and can't find enough of but what I have seen so far has actually exceeded my expectations. I only have 15 minutes right now but I promise to give full breakdowns for all 3 betas later today.

Jasper-Isis: The first 15 seconds is simply amazing. I have never seen such smooth musical synching. The flow is complemented by the freeze frame and the speed matches the music perfectly. The synching thorughout is excelent, it's hard to even concieve of high points but the parachute bursting comes to mind as particularly nice. The ending is wonderful. The fiery enviorment really lends an air of tension and the timing is very powerful. I like the idea of haveing some kind of credits following this peice more now because it is a true climax.

Coffe54: Love the style. A couple parts seemedd like there was a bit to much stillness but there was a lot of high points too. Normally I strongly dislike chibi stuff and the whole sweatdrop super exageration thing but it really works here and I found that those parts of the video were my favorite. It matches the old slightly distances look of the segment and give an essensial sense of motion. The part where he holds his cheek is interesting, did he get slaped or is he thinking about he actions towards that girl?

Bum: Actually 3/4 of LTE is now in Dream Theater so your not that wrong. I saw in annother thread that your having trouble with the reqirements. My advice is to chill out and not worry to much, we'll try to help you out with ideas and for what it's worth I think the segment is going very well. I think there is a bit to much of a pause at 0:10 but other than that you know how I feel about the first part. The begining of the new stuff is great, really captures the feel of the big city. The way I see it he is not only in a strage situation but a strange place as well and things are happening way to fast. The shot of the girl is nice, what is his relationship to her? (that could be one direction to go in). The editing is quick and solid, maybe start thinking about how you want it to end and start building towards that. Good job so far though, a much needed highly energertic segment.

shit I'm late. Catch you guys later.

Haha that'd be awesome... but don't overexert yourself on this.

Il have to go into lurking for the next two weeks due to exams, but I'll still post in the project thread if anything comes up.

Is Drngd still doing the credits? If so, then I've got an idea that may call for his level of skill and creativity. :P

As soon as the video gets to the last shot of my segment, the camera view can fly upwards away from the video, revealing a sort of techy filmstrip that the video is but a panel on. [Possible camera in the background?] Words will materialize alongside the panel, labeling the segment with my name, the anime name, possibly "theme" and such. The filmstrip would waver there momentarily, then proceed to wind to the next panel, which would be Bum's, showing a clip of his segment along with his info. Through 15:48 - 16:22, the filmstrip goes through credits for each segment in reverse order. Then everything from 16:23 on to the end will be a "this has been ProjeKct: Life" kind of final wrap-up.

How does that sound? The idea came to me as I was watching a couple of really well-done MADs, shine@G2's Recollectionin particular. There's a pretty cute example of filmstrip use at 4:04 in that video.
