I've mostly improved with my originality, being that as of late I've been using songs that haven't been used here at the .org. In fact I prefer to use songs that haven't been used, but sometimes I like to pair up anime a established songs.

I haven't really done any editing for over a year now, but I've been gaining knowledge in digital video and avisynth. I've learned how to get superb video quality, but my editing skills have gotten worse I think. I'm rusty, I need HypeO to stab me with their editing goodness

I've definitely improved a lot in the past year and a half when it comes to the technical side of things, especially workin' AVISynth an' makin' footage look all pretty-like.
I've never really considered whether or not my editing skills have improved; I always manage to fulfill my expectations (I hesitate to use the term "vision") for each video pretty well, and it's only rarely that I see something after I'm done that could have been improved. So it never occurred to me to ask.
But I certainly discover new little effects tricks with each new effectsy video I do, so.
(I'm still a big fan of the "duplicate, then zoom in and fade out" technique that I first noticed in MeriC's "Deceptive Passions" at Otakon 2003... so far it's shown up in DV:UI, my RoS segment, and MEA.)

I think I've been constantly improving with every video that I make. Even videos that turn out to be crap, they have still given me valuable learning experiences.
Despite constantly improving, I've yet to create a video that I feel is "perfect"... such that, if I had it to do over again, I would leave it exactly the same. I'll tell myself "I could have lip synced that better", or "that effect could have been cleaner", or "that scene doesn't really fit well there".
I do hope that one day I can make a video that I am completely satisfied with, but for now, I'm quite satisfied with what I've accomplished.

I've been making anime music videos for 8 years and so far have made 48 music videos.
Yes I defentily think I have improved but not that much I don't think.
Maybe others might think I have if anyone has downloaded my music videos ^_^ but I don't have every single one I made on here. I only put ones that I like.
Some of my videos I liked when I first made them but then when I watch them again I think I could of done better. Like I could have timed them better and maybe have put more effects.
When I first started out I didn't have no hardware at all. And had very crappy footage clips that I had downloaded from around the internet [pretty much it was always sailor moon] that was only a resolution of 160*120. They sucked so bad when I went back and watched a few of them. they were not synced at all. lol.
Then after learning about video capture cards I had got one and bought a dvd player hooking it to my computer. And captured footage from the anime dvds I had. The music videos I have made with resolutions of 352*240 are alot better than my olds ones I know. So I have improved alittle bit. Not a whole lot. But in my newest[recently ones I have made] I think I have improved more. [the ones I have made in the years 2003-2004-2005]
Now going through the guides and everything and learning about Avi synth and all that I downloaded Amv App. I had asked someone help on what to do though because I was confused by the guides. lol. I LOVE it soo much. I'm very happy to actually make bigger resolution videos now. I have only finished one video that has a resolution of 480*320 so far and I love it. And Currently working on two right now with the anime Noir and my other one with Pretear. They are going to be awesome ^_^ Can't wait to upload them when I'm finished and so far I've been working on my pretear one for over a month now. So its defentily going to be good. And I hope everyone thinks it will be too once I get it finished and uploaded. So actually on these ones I defentily think I have improved.

I feel i have improved by quite a bit between my first and second video, but the numbers suggest something different.
Maybe i should stop putting links to #2 in my sig in forums where i talk about sensitive issues.

In my first year of making AMVs, I do not think I improved THAT much. The only difference I notice between my second and third one is that by video number 3 I had taken out the subtitles. First one does not count due to the footage not having them.
The year 2004 passed in between without my making ANY AMVs.
Then I get a new computer. I have a new favorite anime. I want to make an AMV of it. There is this song lingering in my mind that I had wanted to AMV since 2003, but had not found the right footage. So I make an AMV of it.
And then I make more. I learn about the wonders of MPEG-2. I learn how to resize the resolution. I learn more about timing. I learn how to capture better footage- and even capture video game footage too. I learn the meaning of terms like sync. I try to lip sync and beat sync in addition to lyric sync.
So I do think I have progressed quite a bit. I remade a video- used better footage, changed a whole scene, improved the sync in at least 3 others, and deleted two itty bitty short scenes that looked like they had snuck in. The opinions indicate that I DID improve in those 3-4 months of difference.
I have sent what I think are my two best videos to a con's contest. Hopefully they WILL notice the quantum leap in skill level compared to the one I sent last year instead of just discarding them automatically because "The Quest" was not so good.
I have made good ones and not so hot ones. Some have gotten better reception than what I thought. Others have not been received well and thus I have pondered quitting making AMVs. But I enjoy doing it anyway- and flames are a poor reflection of the flamer and not the video or creator.

Don't give up, Scandia. I'm sure you have a lot of fans out there (including me), so don't take it to heart.Scandia wrote:I have made good ones and not so hot ones. Between December and April, I really think that I've improved, even though I've probably only reached the first three rungs of a very tall ladder.

Since my first video ("The Hurricane") was released back on 12/9/04:
- I have two new, more professional, editing tools (Photoshop Elements & Premiere Elements);
- I am using the AMVApp tools the right way;
- I have delved more into AVISynth and use pre-production scripting a lot more now.
So, what do I need to still improve on?
- Learn a lot more about MPEG-2 post-processing with VirtualModDub and AVISynth
- Put Photoshop Elements to use in my future AMVs
- Sharpening my videos for better quality
- Overall Video / Audio Action Sync -- the worst part of most of my vids.
