Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 won't open .wav?

Post by snowcalico » Wed Apr 13, 2005 6:44 am

I've converted an .mp3 into a .wav using 'Magix Music Editor 2.0'. I saved it as 16 bit/Stereo/Samplerate 44100. I'm using a .wav because I learned the hard way in the past that .mp3 causes some serious sync issues.

When I try to import the .wav file (which plays just fine in Winamp) into Premiere Pro 1.5 it tells me it's an 'unsupported format'; which I find hard to believe as '.wav' is on the list of files that can be imported.

Does anyone have any clue what I'm doing wrong for Adobe not to like this file?

The .WAV container can actually use a few different codecs. Did you make sure to save as uncompressed PCM (and not something like IMA ADPCM)?

I'm getting the sinking suspicion that I should be using a program other than Magix, because I looked for a way to select 'uncompressed' when I originally tried to convert the file, and there was no such selection. Had I wanted to make it into an mp3 (don't ask me why the darn thing thought I might want to turn an mp3 -into- an mp3), it did have an 'uncompressed' selection there. The only choices for .wav files were the 16 bit/Stereo/Samplerate 44100 ones. Which is why I'm stumped.

Try using Audacity instead:
Under the File menu, select Preferences..., then go to the File Formats tab and make sure "Uncompressed Export Format" is set to "WAV (Microsoft 16 bit PCM)".
Then select Export as WAV... from the File menu and let 'er run.

Hooray! It worked!

Thanks for taking the time to help me out. :) Guess I won't be using Magix again.
