DivX Logo drivin me insane

Post by Garylisk » Mon Apr 11, 2005 4:43 pm

So, I keep seeing it in videos these days.. the DivX logo in the bottom right hand corner. OK, now I am not sure I understand why this gets put into the video. As far as I can remember, since I have not used DivX in ages, that logo appears at the beginning of video playback when using the DivX codec, and then fades out. I never knew it would encode into the vid itself.

So, in order to try and help the noobs and others not in the know out there, I am going to offer some advice on a couple things you should definitely do in order to keep that damn DivX logo out of your videos.

1. Uninstall DivX. This is very important. Get DivX off your machine NOW! "But then I won't be able to watch videos!" you say. - No, you'll be able to watch videos still, as soon as you do step 2!

2. Install FFDShow! Click here to download the latest version of FFDShow Alpha. And yes, you want the Alpha. Trust me, it works better than the non-alpha version.

3. Install XviD! I reccomend downloading the build of XviD found on this page - Get the latest stable build. It should work for ya just fine for all your ENCODING needs.

So there you have it. You don't have stupid commercialized DivX anymore, you have FFDShow for watching videos. (And really, you don't need anything but FFDShow to watch any video of almost any codec.) and you havge XviD for encoding!

No DivX logo! No stupid logo!

There is no excuse for it! Thanks for reading this and fixing an obnoxious problem. :)

Oh yeah, and make sure you use BSplayer for watching your vids! :P The free version has a small text message in fullscreen mode, but it doesn't get in the way of your vids. And you can kill it by buying the pro version, which unlike many products out there, is worth it. (OR you could crack it :P but I wont go into that ;) )

OK that's all.

...or Media Player Classic, which is BS-free.

I've got another suggestion:

1) Start Menu --> Programs --> DivX --> DivX Codec --> Decoder Configuration

2) Quality Settings tab

3) Check the "Disable Logo" box

(This is for DivX 5.0.5; directions may vary slightly for other versions, but the "Disable Logo" box WILL be there somewhere.)

I guess it bears mention that, ever since I initally installed DivX 5.2.1, all video I've made with it no longer has the DivX logo showing. :)

I like divx, Its a good codec. Sure its not the best, but most people cant tell the difference anyway. Coupled with Dr.Divx its the fastest and easiest way to back-up dvd's.

divx does have some advantages...

the logo thing is just lack of knowledge of how to remove it...and doesn't get in your way any more than the bsplayer ad

 Gah! That DivX logo can get really annoying. Take Itachi/Sasuke - My Pain, Your Thrill, for instance. The stupid logo keeps appearing all over the video! Bad bad bad bad bad!!

The logo probably keeps appearing because of the program the person used to make their video. At least that used to be what caused the problem for me.

Considering how many great free and Free media players their are, its kinda silly to pay for one.

If the logo keeps appearing then iether the editor downloaded divx rips of the souce footage, or he made divx rips and edited them. Iether way, the problem lies between the keyboard and the chair.

I think this is a good summary.

Disabling this logo in DivX settings, as scintilla suggested, is IMO the best solution, and by far more simple than telling a noob that he/she has to install ffdshow...
