Audio Encoding Progam?

Post by HeavyMetal » Wed Mar 30, 2005 11:40 pm

I was wondering if anyone could suggest an audio encoding program.

I am looking for one that would allow for the use of various codecs with different settings.

I am trying to test out the capabilities of different audio codecs.

Audacity is great for Wave Analysis.
HeadAC3he and BeSweet seems good for mp3 and ogg.

However that leaves a lot of codecs and formats out.

I have DB Power AMP.

Does it allow for codec selection?

That way I can use things like FLAC, Apple Lossless, Monkey Audio, or other codecs lossy and lossless.

I am trying to do a codec comparison. I have only ever used it for Wav.

Use the drop-down menu when you bring the program up.

Yes, it can encode, if you install the proper plugins for it (most of those plugins go both ways - decode/encode). It can't encode Apple Lossless (but it can decode it), but if you want that you can use iTunes. FLAC, Monkey's Audio, MP1/MP2, WMA 8/9/9.1, AAC, Musepack, Vorbis, RealAudio, OptimFrog, etc. can all be done with dBPowerAMP, provided you have the plugins. Look under 'Codec Central' to find them on the main site.

Although for Vorbis I suggest using the newest build of oggdropXPd that uses aoTuV b3. You can find that at Rarewares.

Thanks I have been looking for a new vorbis encoder.

Sorry about the stupid question. I had dB installed, I just rarely use it.
Plus I got it from a programs site so I never saw codec central.

It works well, but it does stink with Vorbis.

Anyway thanks again.
