Effect Question

Post by JenCM18 » Sun Mar 27, 2005 2:28 am

I don't know how I'm going to explain this. but here goes

I'm trying to do a line effect where its white but faded around the edges [Trying to use it in a vid where it goes with a beat of the music].

I can't think of an example of this done in a video.

Ok I go to adobe photoshop make a black image using the marquee selection tool with a feather of 15 or so delete the black. Where now I have a white line with faded edges.

I go to premiere put it over a clip. The clip underneath the line I go to transparency and put it on track matte. All it does is show the clip underneath it in it.

If anyone can help me know how to make it stay white please reply!! ^_^

Go into photoshop. Make a new tranparent layer. Draw a white line and guassian blur it till it looks like you want while leaving the rest of the layer transparent. Save. Import ONLY THAT LAYER into Premiere and plop it on the top layer. Preview and fiddle around with the line as needed.

Forget about screwing with the transparency settings, Premiere automatically takes care of it when inporting a photoshop file with tranparent areas on it.

There are other ways to do this but since you're using Photoshop already this is probably the easiest.

There's a way to manage this kind of effect completely in premiere if you are working with basic rectangular shapes. If you are working with non-rectangular shapes you can still just make the basic shape in whatever editor and then manage the faded edges in premiere.

I made a small project that shows how this can be done.

Oh oops... I guess I should have looked closer... you're just talking about a basic white line ... no transparency :P
