ugh, here's to not reading the rest of the OP

I thought the purpose was far more basic than that. Do you not watch AMVs to be entertained? Does it always have to be a tearjerker?
Some people are like; “I would have removed just about every effect in the video, there nothing but distractions”. I’m like if I were to do that I would not have made the video at all.
Is this all in my head, are there not armies preparing for battle?
keep in mind there is a diverse audience at the org. some are primarily anime fans, some are primarily music fans, some are primarily music video fans. they are going to have very different preferences and expectations, not only in use of effects, but also in video structure, direction, style of presentation, consistency with anime source, consistency with music, and so forth. if you make a video that sticks closely to the anime source, people who have not seen the anime will not get the full effect of the video. if you stick closely to the lyrics in the music, you may end up taking scenes out of context and confusing your watchers. it is very rare to find a video that can impress all groups of viewers.
