I don't know if it would still be worth your wild. I remember some conventions not getting enough entries and simply abandoning the "contest" all together (I don't remember if they even bothered to still show the videos). I'll be very surprised if they get enough by the deadline to still hold a contest. I wonder how many entries you would need to be considered enough to hold a contest.MistyCaldwell wrote:Is the contest still low on entries? I finished a video a couple days ago and I don't know if I'll be able to attend any conventions this year....so I'd rather submit to a con that needs entries.
It's a drama video by the way.

Yes, but aren't those conventions usually small local ones, and isn't AnimeCentral fairly large and well-known? Somehow I doubt they'd be that low on entries... I think they're much more likely to push back the deadline (here's hopin') than to cancel the contest altogether.rubyeye wrote:I don't know if it would still be worth your wild. That would be fine by me. I never win prizes (even when I win titles) and actually I hardly ever win at all. If my video was shown, that's all I would need.
From what you are saying, rubyeye, it seems like they have very little entries at all....(I think at the beginning of the thread it said 3?
) but at least I can help them have an amv screening.

I was aware of the rules for ACEN and them accepting MJPEG which is why I did it that way. and as for my Anime North/huffy thing...I think you might be confused on what I am actually doing (and if you aren't...then maybe I am doing it wrong). When I made my "test" DVD, I used Nero Vision Express and "added" my huffy video to that, to which I believe it encoded how it thought to encode. So when it said the DVD was burnt, it was made into a video DVD that is playable in my DVD Players. I do not believe it is a Data DVD with the video on there, but an actual video DVD. This is going to be the way that I will send both my AMV's to AN (My regular one which might actually be crap but meh...and my 1 min challenge AMV). I will simply add the huffy files to Nero Vision Express and let it encode them to whatever format it wants to make the video DVD.TaranT wrote:You may be DQ'd if you send a Huffy-on-a-disc. Well, I think I have everything worked out. I just finished sending 2 CD-R's down to ACEN. 1 with a MPEG version and the other a MJPEG (since I didn't figure out the huffy thing before then...not going to post everything I tried)
And as for the DVD to Anime North. I do indeed have a DVD burner and the software needed to burn it. I also made a test DVD the other day testing different codecs and seeing how they played. I will just use my huffy encode and copy that directly over to the DVD and let it encode they way it wants to (looked good quality to me when watching on my TV and the sound was good too). And I hope you sent MPEG2 to ACEN. They don't want MPEG1 or MJPEG, although I suspect they're a bit more flexible about formats than AN. (ACEN AMV Rules here)Please submit entries on CD-ROM or DVD in a format (CD-V or DVD) that can be played on a standard DVD Player (such as a Panasonic DVD-RV32).
(edit: M-JPEG is allowed; see next reply)
I am also sorry if this is going off-topic. Just thought I would like to clarify myself

I'd be shocked if the contest was strapped for entries- the last few years they've gotten around 2 times the number of videos that could be shown in the contest and had to have prescreening-type showings to whittle the entries down to the right length for the main showing. However, I suppose there is a decent chance of there being a drop in total entries due to the extra effort required in mailing the entry in vs. uploading it via FTP (and in a number of cases, already having uploaded it for another convention and just clicking a button to submit it elsewhere). I suppose it's anyone's guess as to what will happen. There's still a week left, and I know my entry won't get there until right before the deadling (something about it not being done yet- thank Kami we get Good Friday off so I have an extra day to finish it.MistyCaldwell wrote:Is the contest still low on entries? So I'd say just go ahead and submit your video. It can't hurt.

Acen Due Date extension
By popular request!
The contest deadline has been extended to April 15. We must receive your entry and have it in our hands by then. There will be no further extensions. This deadline is firm and final no matter what.
A reminder that if you submitted using the old form it did not have an e-mail address line. Send e-mail to outlawed@pobox.com to update me. I still have about 4 entries with no e-mail addresses given. Thank you.
