A "Hey, that'd be cool but completely unrealistic"
This just popped off my head when my internet was crawling and I wasn't able to link to Beautiful Earth in BBT's thread.
Is there a way to integrate Wikipedia or Everything2-style pipelinking into the forum? I'm not sure how flexible phpBB is, but it'd be sweet as all hell if, for example, typing [AbsoluteDestiny|Shameless Rock Video] would look like Shameless Rock Video by AbsoluteDestiny when posted.
Just a thought.

The system as used by MediaWiki isn't very tolerant of screwups. If you go to AMVWiki you'll find a few articles that have links to what SHOULD be the same article but aren't due to slight changes in linking.dokool wrote:Yeah, I know, that's another reason I figure this will never be implimented. You could add some sort of auto-correct thing, but that'd take up even more time...Zarxrax wrote:I could see a lot of people spelling it wrong and forgetting to preview :p
You'll also see a lot of links that simply aren't "wikized", even though they should be.
So...yeah. We could do fuzzy matching but I think it'd be far more trouble than it's worth.

Ah, but see, I have evidence that testifies to the difficulty of getting people to work with this system.billy_wires wrote:It'd be great if that were implemented. I wouldn't worry too much about people whining that it doesn't work; they alread bitch about the things that are already in place.

Yeah, and while with Wiki and E2 you can go back and edit the writeup/article/whatever and fix it, phpBB with edit disabled is much less forgiving...trythil wrote:Ah, but see, I have evidence that testifies to the difficulty of getting people to work with this system.billy_wires wrote:It'd be great if that were implemented. Okay, so this is futile. Was still worth mentioning, IMHO.

Okay, fair enough. I have no experience in this area, and it should be showing now...trythil wrote:Ah, but see, I have evidence that testifies to the difficulty of getting people to work with this system.billy_wires wrote:It'd be great if that were implemented.
