Obvious answers for not so simple questions...

Post by MousePotato » Wed Mar 02, 2005 6:04 pm

Everyone,

In regards to any and all video and audio questions. First and formost, READ THE HOW-TO-GUIDES FIRST

With that out of the way I would like to address the issue of giving people obvious answers to not so simple questions. I understand that there are questions out there that are blatenly answered in the guides. But the guides are NOT the bible of digital audio and video. The point I'm trying to make is that when someone is asking questions that pertains to information in the "guides", that person is usually either trying to understand the methods techniqes and theories in the "Giudes"; trying to get another perspective on a certain relavent topic; or in some cases that person didn't read the resourse material provided within this website. When I ask questions and the only answer I get is: "Read the Guides" or they give me a link to the guides, it's like, "Gosh, I'm glad he put that link there. Otherwise I would have never known that such a thing exsisted." All kidding aside, I readly think that it's a waste of bandwidth leaving these replies. They don't help the person comprehiend the presented faq, and in some cases are degrading and insult the intelligence of the questioner.

*NOTE* This post is not intended to flame anyone, any group of people, or any written document. This post has been written soley for the expression of my feelings towards some of the responses that I have seen on the org. Please feel free to bring any facts that I may not know to light as Im not trying to say that I know more than someone else. In fact, It takes alot of time to write how-to-giudes that are accurate and I commend anyone who attempts to do so.

Thanks for reading up to this point. And remember, read the guides before you ask a question. (We're talk'n about valuable bandwidth here :D

Most of the times I've told someone to read the guides, they did not know that it existed, or they were too lazy to read it.

But basically the reason that people simply say to read the guides, is because its answered there. It is answered there far better than most people here in the forum could answer it.

Particularly for a complex question, who want's to write out a detailed explaination when its already been handled by someone else? Who's to say that they would understand your explaination any better than the one in the guide? You could be just wasting your time. And often with technical video material, people on the forums will give you BAD INFORMATION. I think its a lot better to just say read the guides, than to tell someone the wrong way to do something.

Of course, a lot of people are trigger happy with the canned "read the guides" reply. There are times when maybe a little extra explaination from someone could do some good.

Perhaps we should attach a "use Google" reply after "read the guides".

I doubt that anyone who would find that usefull (lazy stupid n00bs) would bother reading it. Though I agree, it is a good read.
