I need a group of heroes

I'm looking for an anime with a diverse group of heroic characters who work together toward a common good. "Diverse" meaning that the members of the group are of varying ages/backgrounds/motivations/etc. In particular, I would like to have in the group:

1. one character who is old enough to have a wife and kids (I say wife because such characters in the Group are usually men)
2. one relatively young character who has a girlfriend/boyfriend
3. one character who's lost a family member or close friend to the same cause

And of course, the more struggles brought to these characters due to their line of work, the better.

I've thought about using X TV, but the mood of the show doesn't fit well with the tone of the song that I want to use. It's just a tad too dark. It does contain all of the archetypes that I'm looking for though.

Any suggestions are welcome, though I have a feeling that I might find what I need in one of the Gundam or Macross series...

Only thing that comes to mind is Giant Robo. The Experts of Justice are very diverse.

And that's not even ALL of them. One of them is only a little kid(Daisaku the boy who controls Giant Robo)

I thought about Record of Lodoss War, but the tone of the show doesn't quite fit with the tone of the song. I need something a little more modern-looking, I guess.

Does anyone know of a mecha series that could work? It doesn't have to match everything exactly...
