I figured I'd cross post this here, from the Katsucon forums. I have shout outs to the winners, and other videos I really liked that I will get to...But this is my feedback about what I felt could have been improved in the contest.
I am not trying to offend the people in charge, but the amv contest seemed poorly organized to me. For me personally, I would have prefered:
- The AMVs to have been categorized by genre.
- The ballot to have listed the song title and anime used, because it was difficult to remember which video was which by video title alone.
- There to be more of a break between videos. Not a HUGE one, mind you, just enough to have time to applaud the video without it falling into the next video.
- The viewers choice to be divided into categories. I know I am going to sound like I'm trying to promote myself here, since yeah, I know...my video was a drama vid. But if you ask a person for their favorite video, most people I know would choose the video that made them laugh. It felt like a great deal of the entries were drama, yet only 1/9 of the main awards went to a drama video....not sure how many of the JCs It just seems a little...I don't know, unbalanced? Maybe I'm just a sap - I've always been a drama fan.
- For the judges NOT to choose "entry music" that happens to be the same music as a video up for nomination in the same category that the judge is announcing - when the Linkin Park song started to play for the judge of the Action winner, everyone around me thought the video that had been to that song won. And it didn't. I know it was an honest misunderstanding, but had that happened to me, I would have been in tears - and rightfully so.
- For the judges to practice a bit before the announce their winner, or kindly let another judge do it? I'm NOT downing any of the judges, in fact I admire them for getting up there at all! It takes courage, and speaking is something that not all of us are good at, and I understand that! But it doesn't seem fair to the creators OR the speaker to have someone who has difficulty speaking clearly, loudly, etc etc annouce the winners? I just like to think our AMVs should be handled in a quasi-professional manner...although maybe I'm just niave.
- ..."Maruto". Need I say more? Proofreading doesn't hurt!
This is without calling attention to the technical difficulties - I have no idea what caused them, so they very well could be something that the judges could have helped. But I just felt the need to express a few things that I felt could have been better. I understand that, even if I wasn't satisfied with the result, a lot of hard work went into putting this contest together. I hope that next years can be better.
